Am yet to see an altcoin that can compete with Bitcoin. However, with a strong team and good strategy, it's achievable.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Altcoins that are better than bitcoin in several ways?

I don't think that there are altcoins like that. If they are better than bitcoin then it will reflect to their market cap and their price are going to be higher than bitcoin calculating their supply limit and demand. But I haven't seen any big altcoin that can compete bitcoin that way.

In a way, altcoins can be better than Bitcoin. Many of them are faster, more anonymous and cheap. However, Bitcoin will always be a leader of the market, and it will affect the price of the other cryptocurrencies.
