Google is going to update its cryptocurrency-related advertising policy and lift its ban imposed back in March this year. However, ads will work only in the USA and Japan for now.

It seems that economic reasons have prevailed after all as advertising brings a lot of profit to the giant, with a great share of it coming from ICOs, wallets and other crypto related projects. For instance, around 86% of Google parent, Alphabet, income is obtained from ads.

No ICO will get any space ever again until there's a properly rubber stamped certification process from governments and even then Google might be a bit wary of it. I don't really get the country restrictions either. Does anyone who's not American or Japanese need protecting from Coinbase ads?

My understanding is that this applies more to exchanges than it does to ICO's.

I'm not cool enough to have a fancy signature so you're stuck reading this

Do you think that ICOs will not find another place for the promotion? Yes, Google is a big corporation with huge authority, but there stay many other options.

Advertising for ICOs just screams "scam" to me.  Most are scams anyway, but having to advertise for them just makes it even more scammy.

Exchange ads, I can see the point of them.

This was bound to happen  Grin . It's all business in the end. And the Great Google had to give in.
Although I will stay away from ICOs that need Google Ads, hopefully some of the FUD stops now. But it's crypto. So who knows.

I don't really get the country restrictions either. Does anyone who's not American or Japanese need protecting from Coinbase ads?
I think this has to do with specific countries that have banned crypto ads and ICOs in general. Google doesn't want to fall foul of jurisdictions and end up paying millions as penalties.
