Or else Stellar will get there as it's doing good at the moment?

Mostly I see people fight back to go for the first spot but here people looking to see the second spot means what will we do for the price bump or dump in the marketplace.

I personally will never support this shit coin Ripple st anytime.

Although xrp seems to be hyped up at the moment due to their new product launch but all crypto community is still aware of the fact that ethereum is the largest coin after bitcoin both in terms of volume and product, the rise in the volume of xrp is good for the market as it indicates the interest back, i hope it will be transferred to the whole market soon.

The level of capitalization of ethereum and ripple is constantly changing. Ripple recently bypassed ethereum for a few hours in terms of capitalization, when the level of their capitalization was more than 23 billion dollars. Now again the difference in the level of capitalization between ripple and ethereum is within one billion dollars. Apparently, ripple will more than once overtake ethereum in terms of capitalization, the struggle between them for the second place continues.

Ethereum should be careful with that spot. Because Ripple is another top project with very good partnerships. Ethereum on the other hand has been under huge criticism lately. XRP first tasted the second spot last year followed by it exceptional growth. I think that If Ethereum does fixes it current limitations /issues, XRP might make that move permanent.

Ethereum will stay at the 2nd post because XRP prices were made some quick bump in the last couple of days and if some prices were bumped too quick means then the chance of falling more than that also possible so the price of ripple will fall soon because people will dump their coins to make profits so people investing at ripple need to make hard decisions because there might be a price drop again.

You are asking the wrong crowd this question.

You should be talking to central bank representatives who stand behind ripple and all the other majors cryptos too.  Of course you will never get an answer and that's the point.  All markets are controlled.  The top spots will rearrange according to the whims of the bankers at this point.

The market in cryptos is too small to have any independence on the market.  It's a small sliver of the economic activity compared to world GDP, and is therefor subject to extreme manipulation like all other noteworthy markets.

Only after the masses start to uncontrollably pile into cryptos that all our dreams will be realized.  Until then, expect to see occassional huge run ups followed by slow decents.  This will occur until the masses catch wind of Internet money and overwhelm their ability to control this market.  The current play is to kill as much sentiment as possible and they are hoping people just throw in the towel.

However, we all know that will never happen, and all we have to do is keep the faith.

Comparing Total marketcap as of this writing between two coins.

Ethereum Ethereum   $22,249,095,310

XRP   $21,309,509,462

with that kind of gap we can presume that reaching out top 2 spot for xrp would really be easy.

Yesterday when I experienced a very high XRP increase, I saw that CMC had shifted the ETH rank, but that was only temporary because after that ETH was ranked second again and now the price is up again it could be if the XRP continues to experience a significant increase it will replace the position ETH later, we will see who can survive at number 2 for this year.

If ethereum will not change soon it can be loose a lot of value since is actually used only to pay fees for tokens for the ICOs.
They need to do something or soon we will have (in my opinion) a different coin at second place on coinmaketcap, I can see stellar or EOS in a good position if ethereum will collapse.

I don't think stellar's gonna make it to second place. Ethereum is likely to remain so, but still Ripple really has a chance to take the second place in capitalization in the market. Their gap is now minimal.

I do not think so, although Ripple and Ethereum are competing for position number 2 very harsh, but in terms of long-term value, Ripple is not decentralized and Ethereum will soon launch concord Casper PoS

Yes, I think XRP can take the second spot again this year if great pump comes in XRP. But I can't see it staying there for long as mostly Its pump is for a week or two and ETH will regain its 2nd spot after that period. And if we talk about stellar I can't see it on that second spot.

Ripple is always a favorite coin. it may not be this year. but it will repeat in the coming years. I think there will be a change in the first 3 in 2019.

The gap between both is not as big as before but don't forget that new second layer solutions for ETH are coming next year. More ICOs will be made on ETH blockchain again if the scalability problem is solved.

I doubt that Ripple will be able to overtake Eth in the long run. And even if it does, it wont matter that much because Ripples supply is so high.

Seen from the ranking in the coinmarketcap, these two coins are very competitive. The volume of the Ripple and Ethereum. They have different purposes of the blockchain technology. However, their volume in the coin market is also very competitive. We can also see the rate of the market cap of both Ripple and ETH. They are almost same, it is very competitive. However, I still believe that Ethereum will be higher than XRP, although little bit high only.
