Found this very interesting and just wanted to share with you guys. We need more people like this, people in positions of power, who realize the potential of this technology and are willing to preach it to other world leaders. I think this is progress, one small step at a time.

As much as how I'm happy for Malta, and how happy I am for cryptocurrencies getting the publicity it deserves, I think this is probably just the prime minister to get Malta to actually be a relevant country. LOL. It's definitely working though; and I like it.

This is a welcome news no doubt this shall lay the process for further discussion, but I would not get my hopes high for various reasons. One of the most important reason this was said by pm of Malta, I don't think they hold any significant clout over UN, secondly UN powers are fading it's a namesake organisation these days, however if a super power leader say Trump makes such a statement I'm that shall be a game changer.

Its happening eventually that everyone would be involved whether you want it or not. Addressing the general assembly is a brave one that should be commended because the PM saw an opportunity in front of the movers and shakers of the world and he took it to make it known to everybody that this is the future and they can only come with challenges but they won't be able to stop it as it would spread so fast to an unstoppable point. The most part that got me was emphasis that goes beyond just using it as a means of money to tackle the problem that have faced the world especially in the area of aid giving where individuals have used that as a means to enriched themselves.

The only major challenge I see is the people who will want to play religious card against the penetration knowing fully well the amount of importance that people attach to their beliefs.

If such statement was given by the presidents of powerful countries like US, Russia or China, it would have been an international sensation by now. But since the statement came from a small county like Malta, no one really bothers!

It's great when we see a small country understands the value of something which is not yet recognized by superpowers. Because not everyone can read the future and not everyone can recognize an opportuntiy knocking at the door. Those who does, usually excels and outshine others by the achievements.

I wish Malta to have great success with their outlook on cryptos to be used an example to the rest of the sceptic world.

well cryptocurrencies mostly bitcoin is here to stay and it is a serious thing. the technology itself is a very great one with a good amount of power to offer and it can be used in many fields although we have only seen it in cryptocurrency form. so every country needs to think and they need to do it fast. and those who get on board in early stages will be advanced in the field in a couple of years.

There is a FOMO brewing...

Well his words are quite consistent with his actions, considering Malta's crypto-friendly climate. I wonder why he would say that to a UN assembly though. Does he want other countries to take the same stance? Or is this self promotion of some sort?

Either way, it's nice seeing countries focusing on what good things certain technologies can bring rather than being antagonistic because of their pitfalls. It will be cool if they can turn the blockchain island plan into a reality.

This is a wonderful news. At first, thank you for sharing this great news. Cryptocurrency is getting popularity from everywhere, even the prime minister is talking about it! Crypto industry deserves it. I think Malta residence will be very happy and they will engage in crypto more than before.

Crypto alone can not make Malta a relevant country on the world stage, I think it would take much more than that. I assume they want to be the Crypto version of Switzerland.

Exactly, they're just a small country but they want to be a leader in blockchain technology so perhaps they wanted to push it on the world stage such as in the UN assembly.

Remember that Binance and other crypto exchanges are moving to Malta so I wouldn't be surprised that it will be another blockchain/crypto hub like Switzerland.

Thank for your sharing! Maybe you can be surprised by this news but for me, it is not too new. I have realized that from last year when the crypto rised to the top. You can look the past to know. At the first time, people use commodity to exchange. Next, we use gold, silver to buy commodity and now we use cash or official money. So, there is no reason to suppose that crypto will replace traditional currency

Well at the very minimum it gets crypto in the minds of leaders at the United Nations and starts to get them to understand they will need to adapt to it's use in their countries.

I personally feel they do not care two shits about a comment made by a PM of one of the smallest countries in the world. They

either have more pressing matters to attend to or they have a specific mandate to perform and they are focussed on that. We

are grabbing at little straws to garner attention from these people and they could really care less. Let's rather focus our

attention on growing adoption and getting their attention with mainstream pressure.  Wink

At least their PM is somewhat open to any possible change in the society in the future, unlike any other countries who are still against the growth of cryptocurrencies and still pushing their own state-issued 'tokens' (lol). This might not change anything significant in the markets right now, it's still a small step towards global acceptance on the emergence of crypto. We're in the age of digitization and frankly, this PM knows something about the short-term future that other leaders are not seeing.

If the high class people are come to this side and government official comes to this side so may this show a big rise of bitcoin price while it is also using as asset so that's why people every time interested to use it and in the international trade this currency is highly useful while this is less costly than any other currency. It is a great achievement of the PM Malta that he is the favor of crypto and he shows the benefits of the crypto to the UN.

Consider Malta's position. It's a tiny island nation with few natural resources. Its economy is totally dependent on human resources and foreign trade.

Malta is the top regulator of the global online gaming industry. It represents over 12% of its national economy now. So they have strong incentive to push this narrative -- they want to bring their Igaming regulation model to cryptocurrency exchanges and services.

I personally feel they do not care two shits about a comment made by a PM of one of the smallest countries in the world.

Agreed. People are grasping at straws. Smiley

behavior of the Prime Minister of Malta, is the boldest Regarding of crypto as a whole
Everyone Ignores of it or prohibits encryption based on the fear of the unknown
Putting the case on the table In front  world leaders in the largest international forum is a good step that needs next steps.

There is an episode of Good Morning Crypto about that.

I'm going to link it here Malta PM: Crypto is the Future of Money, Huobi EOS Manipulation

Very welcoming development. Bitcoin is gradually and steadily pushing forward into the minds of people. Very soon, with time, it will come to be the new face of money. So many world countries already know but are afraid to adopt it because they fear for things involved.

What Ivan's argument from the episode linked above it was that if Malta wasn't going to do it, someone else would.

I don't fully agree with that, I think it's important to turn as many countries bitcoin friendly as possible. It's interesting to remember how much money bitcoin and crypto in general draw when it comes to investment. I think this decision was all about drawing money to malta. They used blockchain the way bankers and investment people use it.

It might be a nitpick but it shows that they are not interested in the ethos of bitcoin, they are more interested in making money.

We need more people like this, people in positions of power, who realize the potential of this technology and are willing to preach it to other world leaders.

I also agree that we need people who are in a good economic and political position to spread the word about bitcoin, but this will be more effective if those people who are in a high political and economic position show that they can have bitcoin, show that they use bitcoin or some altcoin. What happens and the following: Many government leaders, many bankers, many millionaires and many politicians only talk about bitcoin, some speak  badly about bitcoin and others speak well about bitcoin, but few of them openly tell how many bitcoin they have and how often they use it bitcoin.

I think this is progress.

but we are still far from ideal compared to how many countries there are in the world and how many of them follow the same path as Malta, Japan and South Korea

one small step at a time.

we walk with tortoise steps
