The U.S. Government doesn’t care about your losses. They don’t care if you get scammed. What they care about is their own power, keeping it, and controlling you.

There is no better illustration of that than in the disparity in the sentences of Ross Ulbricht and Joshua Homero Garza.

It’s been three years since Garza’s actions and even longer since Ulbricht’s arrest so a recap is in order. Joshua Homero Garza, better known simply as Josh Garza was the CEO and founder of GAW Mining, which initially sold mining hardware. Eventually they started to rent out hashing power in the form of “cloud mining” the problem was, they didn’t have the mining capabilities they claimed to have.

Unlike hardware and other cloud mining solutions, Garza claimed that his “hashlets” would never become obsolete and would always be profitable. A claim anyone who has spent any time around anything technology related would tell you is impossible.

So, Garza and his band of cronies started paying out old investors with new investor money. You can probably guess what happened next. The Ponzi band-aid could only last so long before there wasn’t enough to go around so Garza started the next phase of his scheme: Paycoin.

Paycoin was billed as a Bitcoin killer. A chance for investors to get in cheap and see the kind of returns early bitcoin adopters got to enjoy. It touted partnerships with VISA, MasterCard, Amazon and Target. It got a long article on the Wall Street Journal website. It was backed by investment firm Cantor-Fitzgerald.

1 word: Gangsterment

If you've got Wall Street Journal covering your project, then you've got the right friends (i.e. Wall St. & Capitol Hill gangsters), hence the outcome.

Who got coverage on the corporate media from the Bitcoin development world throughout it's history? The big blocks schism promoters, that's who (Gavin & Mike Hernia were all over The Guardian and The Economist, and of course the Bitcoin Cash launch ended up as a minor TV news story last summer)

https://coinjournal.net... I might even browse the site, seeing as they appear to have a clue.

Well the government does not have resources or money to care about you. This is the capitalism. Btw, the communism is even worse.

The difference is simple, Ross Ulbricht's sentencing was all about sending a message to anyone that wants to stick it to the man, that they will not tolerate any opposition or anyone trying to challenge their control. Silkroad was an embarrassment to the US government and they wanted to punish Ross for that, so they made an example of him.

Josh Garza did not challenge the government, he just repeated the same Ponzi scheme system that has been around for years in the fiat system.  Roll Eyes

It is also worth considering that any government is not interested in decentralized cryptocurrency. Therefore, despite the massive evidence of fraud among ICO teams, governments are in no hurry to regulate this activity. It is beneficial for them that through fraud ICO the entire cryptocurrency is discredited and people would begin to consider the entire cryptocurrency a fraud.

My opinion:

What happens is the following, the case of ponzi scheme causes people to lose money, their assets, but they are material things that people lose and are few case that someone says: he committed suicide because he lost everything he had to invest in ponzi scheme ".

But in the case of selling drugs, losing people's lives, people spend money on the rehabilitation of drugged people and is often useless. drugs can be consumed by children and relatives of millionaires, presidents of some country and influential people, so this becomes a big problem for everyone in the world. as opposed to ponzi scheme that for the rich can recover their money if your son lose money on the ponzi scheme.

I am not saying that one crime is greater than another crime, I am trying to look into the eyes of the judge

Garza's wee project was the same thing that's played out a billion times since the dawn of man. Mr. Ulbricht's was a giant and unprecedented shot across the bows of the government and they were always going to hammer whoever it was when they uncovered them.

Both sentences are stupid. Garza should've gotten plenty more. Though I think Ulbricht was an absolute moron who I have zero sympathy for he should not be in there for life.
