Seems like this is starting to become a common occurrence in the last few days since the Jr member merit requirement was introduced. I have suspicions that users are purposely meriting posts that are considered spam, and will be removed, and they are anticipating its removal, and thus won't be noticeable by the public.

From now on when deleting a post which I consider spam, but has been merited I'll be listing them here. I'm not accusing anyone of anything, because quite frankly I don't have enough time to investigate the merit sender, and the user that got merited to determine whether its fishy or not. However, instead of deleting the reply, and allowing it to disappear into oblivion I'd prefer a list showing when a post has been merited, but then deleted when its obviously spam, and has no obvious reason why it should of been merited.

Again, not accusing anyone of anything here. I'm just not comfortable with deleting replies, which could well be merit abuse. I'd rather that be public. Unfortunately, a few replies have already been deleted the last few days which received merit.

This post will likely get a lot bigger in the coming weeks. But, hopefully this will act as a deterrent to people looking to abuse the merit system. I'll figure out a way to format it better with the quotes, but I might just include the archive instead, and put it into some code bbcode.

I was gonna start a similar thread and this seems to be a serious issue. Shit-posters are being ranked up by 1 merit and there is no evidence of the merited posts since they are Off-Limits/Moved to Trashcan. Another example of such an account is https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1582336 Typical Bounty Shit-poster with 1 merit. No idea what he got the merit for.

I have myself received merit, including a significant amount from a merit source (I believe), but was unable to refer to the post as it was deleted/off limits. Posting merited threads that were deleted would definitely be useful, not just to identify would-be abusers, but yeah, maybe for others to learn.

Actually haven't been following these merit discussions until recently when several users sent me messages regarding merit. Mostly beggars, but a couple who asked for advice (?). I know I receive quite a bit from goodwill and then if I'm honest a good number from posts I probably would never have merited myself! But there does seem to be a few genuine users who struggle to contribute posts that would merit... Merit.

But equally useful would be what NOT to do. I have tried to give merit a few times to those with 0, don't want to be flagged for unwittingly helping groom shitposters though...

I think I'm only going to post ones which I'm personally going to be deleting, because they are spam or whatever. Maybe, when removing a thread I might skim the content to see if there are any fishy merits going on. I think nearly everyone who has received a substantial amount of merit would of had some in threads which have since been removed. That's quite common.
