I don't think money is the root of evil, it's just a medium of exchange, to get something. If you're self sufficient to live on your own then maybe you don't need money. But we need money to live in society, it's a store of value and medium of transaction to get stuff you need (via a trade). Maybe we can live without money but that would be more difficult and complicated.

Different lifestyle depends on how much you need money. If your lifestyle is too much and you're always into expenses then you need to have lots of money.

But if you're ok decently living with the provision and you have a farm to manage which most source of food is there, you actually don't need a lot of it. Although, being financially free is what everyone aims.

There is always a shotcut you could take, but going the illegal way doesn't pay off in the long run.
