What does DAPPS mean?

Please I have a question, I often hear when I read some whitepapers, check some websites, or surfing in the internet; the word DAPP or DAPPS in plural.

What I have understood is that it's like Staking applications or Something like that, am I wrong?

Dapps means decentralized applications. They are runs as digital applications on the blockchain. There is no single entity has the power to control the decentralized applications.

And why should someone run an app like this? If you have an application that somehow offend someone powerful, or is against their interests, then dapps are tbe way to go.

Nobody has control over it.

The idea behind dapps and smartcontracts , on ethereum, is to have applications or contacts which none of the parts control.

The dapps will be running as long as the conditions are met. Running multiple nodes makes no difference, because the dapps will be  on all nodes.

there will never be a government or organisation that can controll everything, next to the ressource wasting ethereum blockchain that can die off if ethereum price collapses you can also just run you application on foreign servers
