I've discussed this multiple times before, but this is the first time that I'm going to legitimately write down what I think about the subject and explain my thoughts on it. I've even discussed it with the commie that moderates this forum, and crazily enough we found that we agree on something!!!!!!

I think that politics is a sham, I think that both parties need one another to stay relevant. If the Republicans dominate politics, with no Democratic challengers, then you're going to see a world with little to no reason for people to fundraise for Republicans and supporting their views -- it's just natural that we have Republican policy.

Think of it like this, if it's a given that we have Republican Presidents that support big oil and no opposition (at least in government) that doesn't support big oil, then there's no reason for big oil to donate large sums of money to political campaigns.

This line of thinking goes both ways, as Planned Parenthood wouldn't be donating to Democrats if they were the only party in the government and Republicans weren't attempting to cut their funding and such.

Batman Needs the Joker, or he's not needed.

What do yall think about this line of thinking? Am I just a crazy conspiracy theorist, or is there some reason behind what I'm thinking? (Just making it moderated to fight the trolls, I'm not going to silence anyone - I promise!)

I'm pretty sure we can all agree that all government officials, regardless of party, need accountability.

I think that power can corrupt anyone, regardless of their political stance. The best way to counter that corruption is accountability and transparency.

As with any organization, it has similar result if hijacked by criminal cartels. I think one thing you are seeing though that may be confusing is the fact that the 2 party system int he US was DESIGNED to create deadlock so that those politicians don't get the ability to pass too many laws. The entire idea was they spend the whole time fighting each other and not fighting to enslave the people. To an extent however you are correct, it is largely controlled opposition.

This is more of what I was getting at 'controlled oposition' crazy that I couldn't think of this term, but thanks for that.

Oh 100% though I don't think accountability is going to solve a controlled oppo problem, it's just going to make people better at pleasing their bases and faking it.

Its the reason why they won't allow 3rd party candidates into the debates and many of the big ticket items get vast bipartisan support (defense spending bills).  Both parties are capitalist and pro-war which is why you see the GOP reject fiscal conservativism and democrats reject socialism.

The US common law government was carefully designed as a 2 party system on purpose. As I have explained before in other posts, the writers of the constitution intended both parties to constantly resist each other and reach a stalemate. The idea is they are busy fighting each other and not enslaving the people.

The second is if you introduce a 3rd party, it makes it incredibly easy for extremist groups to get in. Green saps votes from Blue, and Blue loses to Red when it otherwise would have won, Red and Blue are divided or apathetic and Green takes the majority as a result, etc. The idea being short term political whims shouldn't be allowed to create instability. Of course you can argue the validity of these arguments, this was part of the intent when it was created.

More evidence that our constitution is entirely outdated. Maybe it was great at the time but now its the oldest in the world and clearly isn't working and amendment difficulty was built in so we are stuck. Depressing.

I don't think this would be the case, as I don't think a third party would ever have too much power too much power in the least. Lets take some other countries political systems for example (systems where you're going to have multiple parties) usually just ends up drifting to where you have two parties (just not by name, they'll drift to be in a coalition / alliance with one another)

So even if your country has multiple parties, you still end up with a two party dynamic (in most places) as people want to centralize power.

I agree. Politics fools us all! They dont ban harmful things like alcohol, cigarettes, sugars etc but they ban marijuana because it can cure many diseases and many hospital will have less income! So they are letting us to take this harmful things so we will buy medicine for a long term and not letting us know that marijuana can cure this immediately. They just care about their money! Politics is business!

Uhhh, marijuana is harmful my dude. It causes cancers.

It does effectively treat pain, which is pretty cool.
