Developing it was probaly a great revenue earner for the defence contractors, but wouldn't it have been better to spend the money on improving the domestic infrastructure in the US, and in encouraging the purchase of US manufactured products.

I've always thought that the real threat to the US in a war with China, would come from the sleepers in the Chinese communities that are in every city in the US.

Absolutely!,
But who controls the money supply and collect Taxes. They are also huge share holders of these so called defense contractors. The whole purpose of this shitshow is just so that they could protect and empower their political stance.

This might be about the B-2, but it really is about why we spend big bucks on anything.

The debt-money system operates on continual spending. The moment we stop borrowing $billions and $trillions to spend on this and that, so that we can repay $millions and $billions in loan repayments, the money system will crash. That won't be good for the big bankers, or for all the people on Social Security and Welfare.

I also think, that modern war equipment is very expensive, just think, if you make bomber from ordinary wood - it will costs may be 2000 USD only.  Wink Army can spend all budget money without any problems, just think what is the cost of modern warship.  Grin

I've always thought that the real threat to the US in a war with China, would come from the sleepers in the Chinese communities that are in every city in the US.

You are very wrong on that count, good Sir. Historically, especially during the first world war, there was a lot of suspicion about the German origin soldiers in the US Army as the fight was against Germans in Europe. But, their American-ness won the day, and they fought with more gusto than the rest of the lot.

Recently, there was the "Islamist/ pan-Islamic" scare, but the Muslims of America proved resistant to that call, even as Europe crumbled.

Therefore, it is almost inevitable that the American Chinese with origins in Mainland China would fulfil their duty, and more, for the US Army when called upon to fight the Chinese Communist People's Liberation Army (PLA).

In fact, I'd recommend that the next time a US Naval warship undertakes a "freedom of navigation" voyage in the South China Sea, they take along some Mainland China origin Chinese Americans (whether regular sailors or temporary conscripts). Then, at the height of imminent confrontation, let these Chinese origin sailors man the decks, and blare out loud from loud-hailers in their fluent Mainland Mandarin diction. The thought that now it is Chinese settled in America fighting against the Communist PLA Navy would be extremely disquieting to the Communists and rattle the nerves of the PLA Navy. The PLA Generals sitting in their Peking offices will no doubt draw the appropriate comparison with how the German origin American soldiers destroyed the German Wehrmacht in both World Wars.

No. That's a highly useful weapons system.

I think that the United States has every reason to spend such huge amount of money on increasing its own military potential. Given the growing threat from Russia, the conflict in Syria and other "points of military contact", American policy is focused on combat readiness at any time. The world is in a very shaky state, the centers of confrontation can flare up at any moment. Informational hybrid wars are already underway. The transition to real weapons is only a matter of time. The United States chooses a reinsurance strategy, and I believe that this is quite reasonable, considering the reality of the danger.

The United States has been known to be the most exorbitant spenders on military hardware (Aircraft carriers, Fighter Jets etc) and other developmental ventures. But the products developed by the US have a technological edge and led to the invention of many newer technologies. While one can debate over cost to advantage ratio, I would say we all believe that military hardware from the US is much costlier than those developed by other countries.

The US defense manufacturing industry is private and has huge lobbying power in the Senate. They can extract huge budgets for developing technology and extracting profit. The entire American legislative process is very susceptible to lobbying and industrial groups exert tremendous resources and force to swing the tide in their way. Plus they regularly need to distract their population away from real issues using war. War and other conflicts allow the populace to have that nationalism feeling which keeps the entire democratic machinery going and the people willing to pay their taxes and fulfil other obligations towards their nation.

While I'm not going to sit here and attempt to be a warhawk about certain things, but people do have to know that a good deal of military spending is spent on employee benefits and salaries (as the military is one of the largest - or maybe even the largest - employer in the United States) so it's not like all of the money that they're spending is all going to R & D work.

I do think this R & D is pretty important as well, as you're going to have to keep up with all of your eneimies in ensuring that no one has an edge. This is a pretty horrid rabbit hole to go down, as there is no real 'winning' in this situation. But it's either this, or one country gets an advantage.

Having had enough industrial equipment designed and manufactured in the US fail to meet expectations at certain points in time; I suggest doing so anytime between October and May.

We're all in our homes so we won't see it coming. Thanks to another great innovation we do have an Opiod army of sleepers at the ready willing to do anything.

If they weren't going to spend the money developing this, they would spend it on some other weapon for another inevitable conflict. Though if any governement followed the money on these defence contracts they could probably do it for half.

wouldn't it have been better to spend the money on improving the domestic infrastructure in the US,

This isn't as flashy and doesn't earn votes or campaign contributions.

Don't forget the Maple syrup, god damn Canadians have been manipulating the Maple Syrup market by hoarding the stuff for decades!  B-2's will level the playing field and give Americans access to the Canadian Ice and Maple Syrup market!

By not spending money on bombers the Us is doing just fine with Maple Syrup, we even imported some.

As for the Ice, definitely come during November to May, plenty to go around.
