So I was thinking, if you really want to have less shitposters why not change the ranking requirments, make it even harded to level up so shitposters stay away.
Make it something like this:

Rank   Required activity   Required merit
Brand new    0   0
Newbie      1   0
Jr Member    80   10
Member      120   50
Full Member   200   150
Sr. Member   300   300
Hero Member   600   600
Legendary      1000   1000
Copper Memb.   30      1

-1 Unnecessary. 99.5% of all the "Shitposters" won't make it past Jr member anyway. This is just restricting the average poster even more, which is not something i think the forum should do.

What's the difference anyway? Another ≈≈100 activity/merit for each rank starting at Full Member? I think the forum really has more pressing issues to adress than this.

Can you please stop spamming on meta ?

I have noticed you made another thread today another suggestion or question. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5050051.0 , which is already discussed many time and totally unnecessary make a new post regarding that. I don't why you are suggesting like this, you have joined November 28, 2017 and just earn single merit. But you are suggesting to increase earn merit for ranking up.

....

Probably the same thought came to every user's mind who was dumped from his jr. rank (I'm not an exception  Wink) and have to work for merit or pay for copper
Literally: "if I have a harder time, let others have too"

However, according to stats juniors and newbies are a real problem from the shitposting/spamming point of view - we have about 50k user from member to legendary who didn't earn any merit so far (my previous calcullations)... and close to 2.000.000 newbies and juniors...
So numbers show everything....

One more:
If you would like to rise the requirements for Member 5 times theoretically you should pay extra four times more for your copper membership (as long it's similar to member rank)...

By the way: why you wrote 2 different threads within an hour with such simmilar content?
First off, I agree with the implementation of 1 Merit for Jr. Members, but I find it unfair that those who were already Jr.Members were demoted to Newbie again, it's just unfair, they should have received 1 Merit from the System automatically and so only new members would be needed to get 1 Merit. When merit was implemented everyone automatically received Merit based on activity, so why is it now different?

Do you simply make threads just for the sake of it
You complain about shitpots, yet you make one in the same thread you moan to us about it

I bet you felt you were never gonna get a single merit hence you purchased the copper membership
Why not increase the merit to 2 for copper membership in your shitty suggestions..Lol Grin

I know I am a newbie and my opinion doesn't mean shit, but I don't think this will work.
There are a lot of ways to get 1 or even 10 merits and after that no one even cares about shitposting or even getting their account banned. Cause they've done what they wanted to do.

This is my humble suggestion: :
Have a MAXIMUM number of activities or posts for junior and Member ranked profiles in Bitcointalk per week or month.
I see people with 200+ activities and only one merit that they probably bought/scammed someone to get. THESE accounts are the real shitposters.

Legendary      1000   1000

The table is good, it is a pity that the system works quite differently. And I think they are not going to change it

This is an interesting idea.  I don't think it should be restricted to only the lower accounts, but should perhaps be more focused on limiting the creation of new threads as opposed to responding to topics.  There are plenty of higher level accounts spamming the forum with new threads in an attempt to garner attention and earn merit also.

Yeah but the thing is, if someone comes to bitcointalk with the intention of engaging in legitimate discussion and reading others' posts, there won't be any issue if they're unable to rank up.  I've said this a million times before:  it's only the shitposting, bounty-spamming idiots who are obsessed with getting merits and ranking up.  If they stop registering on the forum, that would be a win for everyone.

Another useless suggestion from a useless person here in this community.
I don't think it's completely useless, but all of these suggestions being made after Theymos put the 1-merit requirement into effect are just a little too late.  I don't think Theymos is going to be making any more changes for a while.  He's probably going to see how this last one works before doing anything else.  Having said that, it probably would have been a better idea to have a 5 or 10 merit requirement to rank up from Newbie to Jr. Member.

But hey, at least something was done and I'm grateful that Theymos took some action instead of doing nothing.  The change he put in place isn't a perfect solution by any means, but it's a hoop that Newbies have to jump through in order to put advertising in their signature and I'm sure some of them won't even be able to earn a single merit--or buy a copper membership for that matter.  It's better than nothing.

New users are not here on the forum the rank at the start, so this makes no sense at all.
99% of new users are bots or alts so killing them is a great idea, but OP idea is not so good in my opinion since is already hard to achieve full member +rank. There is no point to increase again the difficulty to earn one rank.
The only thing that I agree with op is to increase the merit required for Jr but 10 seems too much, 5 is a great number.
I would also hope for a lowering of the merits required for hero and legendary ranks, they require really a lot of merits to gain especially for those who do not speak English as a first language. (considering also how many active hero or legendary have not earned even 50 merits from the start of the system)
What the difference in earning 500 merits (for hero rank) and a hypothetical 400? Does the 400 merits earn guy deserves nothing? Just my thoughts.

I don't think this will matter to low ranking accounts: a spammer can just open 10 more accounts if his account can't post anymore.
For high ranking accounts on the other hand it could work, I don't think a Legendary spammer would want to continue with a new Newbie account. But I don't think theymos is very likely to restrict freedoms like this, so I don't expect this to happen.

One reason I do not come onto this forum a lot is the bullying, egotistical, arrogant, derogatory attitude of what I am gonna call the "ppl that post lots on the forum" mob.  Reading these comments makes me cringe. Especially the one called this poster a useless person - its sickning and vile. Wake up to yourselves and stop thinking you are better than anyone else cause you have a high fucking ranking on a fucking forum! Big woop de fucking do! Yep mine says Newbie. Been member for a while. I come here to read occasionally, hardly comment/post but I am an equal standing in the world with everyone else. I have 2 degrees, one in Mathematics and one in Economics and I'm not at all short of a quid, but being classified as newbie on a forum because I do not "contribute", according to most of u, I am/ we are just useless fools who don't have a brain and/or cannot voice an opinion or suggestion. Grow up!

~ being classified as newbie on a forum because I do not "contribute"
You're a "Newbie" because you haven't reached 30 Activity yet, I've been there too, it's how many forums work. You're not a spammer, which means you shouldn't be limited by the Merit system. Make a few more posts and you'll be Jr. Member.

Note that my Merit doesn't necessarily mean I agree to what you said.
