Recently I was using web telegram platform as I wasn't able to use the app. As I was using a public wifi soon a worker from that venue came to see whose computer was mining cryptocurrency with malware.

What we found out is that it starts when the web telegram is opened in the browser. Could it be that it's written in the code or something? Is it safe to use it? Has anyone heard of the same problem before?

No clue what could be going on there, but that is why Telegram almost forces you to use the phone-app, by forcing you to sign up through a Mobile Device. Better safe than sorry!

I am assuming that this could be happen because of the computer that running Web telegram are clicking something like this :

Or maybe something similar from this, such as .scr (it could be script)

It's not the telegram itself but probably your browser. Check your computer's performance, CPU usage on how many percent was being used. Is it safe to use? well think that someone is using your computer to mine some altcoins, what would you feel?

As suggested just block it.

This is golden! And apart from this, one thing to keep in mind is basic security like do not click on links from sources you don't trust, to not install apps from untrusted sources, be it desktop or mobile, don't open email attachments from people you don't know. Even better, don't open attachments even from people you do know, because they could be hacked. What I do when I receive a document via email is I upload it to Google Drive and open it from there. In this way I ensure that I don't get viruses or malicious scripts running on my machine.

Also, if you use public Wi-Fi's it's best to use a VPN. There are a great deal of VPN providers out there, and you can even built one yourself, by buying a hosting package for $5 and installing Open VPN.

If you talking about https://web.telegram.org then it's safe. Here's a source code used on telegram server https://github.com/zhukov/webogram
