With so many scams around these days, investing in ICOs is a challenge. Aside scams, there are issues related with the viability of tokens, and utility. That is why I've been researching on how to get the right sort of token. Investors also need to do more research before paring with their money in ICOs. This article gave some insight https://cryptoinfowatch.com/initial-coin-offering-choosing-a-good-token/

Or why not just stop investing to ICOs and just go with the normal tokens / coins that are already listed on exchanges?

Doing research is still good enough to know if the ICO is a scam or not that will give you strength on what to avoid.

May be that can form a good option but not that much good as if it will create a healthy environment for the crypto currencies. I mean if everyone stopped making investment into the ICO then how do you think that new coins which may have greater potential than the current will exits or will be created.

This can be bad and also there is always need to have changes in every field to improve things better and better. So in case of crypto currencies it is the crypto coins which are heart of the crypto world which needs to be improved all the time. Thats why ICO;s should be there.

Now scam and legit are the parts of different story I believe.

I believe that the current fraud in ICO has seriously affected the balance in the market, because when investors are affected by certain investment losses, they will no longer trust the ICO market!

By not being scams. Having an ICO is not a prerequisite to being successful.

There are only a tiny handful of altcoins that aren't a complete scam, have a working product, and have a real world use. Monero is a great example. The best privacy coin, consistently upgrading their technology, meeting their targets and increasing adoption. They had no ICO.

Look on the other hand at the most successful ICO of all time - EOS. They raised over $4 billion. EOS is a complete mess. Centralized, inflationary, under complete control of the 21 Block Producers, too expensive to use, full of bugs, a new hack every week, the dev team cashing out and leaving, etc.

If a new coin is actually good, they would manage just fine without an ICO. Indeed, having an ICO is more likely to mean the project is a scam and the team just want to make a quick buck with zero work.

Yes, there is that need to inject something new into the market. A lot of coins/tokens in the market now are dead. Projects with better technology and with real use case is still needed.

Not only the ICOs but the bounty if you are working then also you have to carefully choose the project to invest or put your effort. Because most of the ICOs are going flop these days or seems scam.

Yes, scams projects very much these days. Some ico projects do not become a scam at their own will, but they simply do not collect their softcap for further development. If so to judge that on the fall of the cryptocurrency market, investors are not willing to invest their money in ico projects.

This issue of scam ICO has greatly affected the system to the extend that, investors are now scare to move in in order to invest. As an investor, please ensure to carryout a proper and thorough research into that ICO before pairing in your hard earn money.

Due to the current market conditions it is pretty difficult to reach great profits by participating in ICOs. I agree, people should be more careful and selective, when they are investigating an ICO. Stay safe guys and do not take part in scam projects.

A very interesting point of the article: "What is the Velocity of the Token?". It seems to me that 90-95 percent of all investors invest their funds for the sake of such quick profits, which the author says.

Useful article.  Never invested in ICO.  I prefer time-tested coins.  Choosing generosity, I adhere to the criteria described in the article.

unfortunately i have to disagree because although you can find ICOs that are not naturally scams but if you look at the history of ICOs that have been created so far you can clearly see that they are not really worthy tokens! most of them were only active during their fund raising and went offline immediately as the fundraising ended. the rest hung around for a little while before disappearing. in the end they all start up to make quick money not to solve anything.

You need to be careful, because the market has changed. For about a year, almost every project has reached its hard cap and the price was mooning after the first listing, so there was no need to be careful because all of them were profitable. Nowadays you need to be more selective.

I absolutely agree with this opinion, many of new ICOs recently turns out to be either total scam or completely worthless. So many risk to take to invest in ICO. So, investing in ICO is not a good option anymore. Moreover there are already millions of coin that the projects are already developed well. Why don't we just put our money on that well-developed projects?

You always have to be careful with crypto, not only with ICOs but also with coins that are already on the market, many times they are used for pump and dumps and similar operations.

I no longer invest my money in projects because it became impossible to make money on it. When you invest you seem to say "Take the money that I do not mind losing, and I will not be upset if you do not even start the exchange" in my eyes it looks like this

We really need to be careful nowadays. Because for me this year has the highest number of scam ICO's. So before we invest in an ICO we need to spent time and be patience enough to read their whitepaper.
