Hello,

I'm working on a sideproject named HODLbazaar Bitilly.

https://hodlbazaar.com https://bitilly.com

The goal is to create a marketplace and allow people to buy and sell items using cryptocurrency with the option to convert crypto to fiat.
The USP here is to allow people to pay with crypto and to allow sellers to receive fiat currency.

I've created a simple template but before I finalize it, I would like to receive opinions about what is mandatory on the platform.

- Shapeshift
- Crypto/Fiat conversions
- KYC for merchants
- Escrow

Anything else that I'm missing?

Thanks in advance.

You mean something like https://openbazaar.org/download/, but in a web-version or something?  What's the difference between you and them exactly? Conversing your money to Fiat?

I personally don't/wouldn't really use these "openbazaar"-esque marketplaces for a number of reasons;

1. Scams. An enormous amount of the listings are fake or w/e.
1.1 "But, but that's what escrow is for" I can't be bothered to go through the disputing process either. It takes ages and usually ends up being not worth your time. Which brings me to my next point;
2. Ease of use/User-Friendliness. Amazon is 5x easier than most of these exchanges (OpenBazaar) (IMO), even with/when using bitcoin (which they don't even accept.) That should be pretty telling.
3. An extremely limited amount of goods/services available in comparison to Amazon/eBay.
4. The goods that are available are usually really trashy and not interesting.

If these issues were to be solved i'd possibly use them over Amazon/eBay, but for now it's just not possible. I also doubt you'll be able to "fix" these issues overnight, as they require enormous amounts of capital. I feel like it'll be very difficult for you, but also other markets (OpenBazaar) to gain any market share at all here. (That's just my opinion though.)

- Shapeshift
- Crypto/Fiat conversions
- KYC for merchants
- Escrow
KYC for merchants wanting to sell on your platform or KYC as a "tool" for merchants on your platform?

The rest seems like pretty basic stuff. Nothing too excited?

I think you already have enough, just do not understand how you will do the escrow, I saw that you have to accept paypal as payment option, how will escrow work for both cryptos and paypal?

basically your site will be like ebay. aliexpress. amazon, so you will be a competitor of them, will have demand for your site?

Thank you for your reply.
I agree, obviously it won't happen overnight.

The idea came up with our own ICO named Qredit. Which is focused on fiat conversions. The goal is to allow people end up buying/selling normal household items using or accepting crypto, even when you are not in to crypto.
The idea also came up because of the OTC channels i'm in on Telegram where people got scammed many times, over and over again.

1. Scams ~ True. Only a trusted review system and a KYC procedure for merchants "could" reduce the amount of scammers on these markets.
We have a ID verification system provided by a 3rd party company named Token of Trust (not crypto related) and additionally we could enable mobile, email and social media verifications.
To "reduce" the amount of scammers.

2. You are right. However, it works on existing platforms and some people still prefer to use escrow services.

3. Only way to increase the amount of users is by doing proper marketing. It's a challenge, I agree.

4. Also marketing and targeting the right people to use the marketplace.

@Slow death;
Being a competitor of ebay, aliexpress etc, isn't something I directly mentioned. But I do believe there is gap between fiat and crypto for marketplaces.
The big guys like ebay, aliexpress and amazon will eventually accept crypto as a payment method. But only limited to Ripple or Bitcoin possibily, or maybe even their own coin.
I think it's better to have a platform, where developers could implement their own coin on the marketplace, or maybe even apply for listing first and check if the coin is not trashy.
It will give a nice exposure for new coin developers.
We've allowed PayPal as a payment method. The goal is to allow ourselves to act as the trusted mediator between the transactions and deal.

The name of the site does not make sense at all.... HODLbazaar? Hodl = not selling any coins or using it, so how will you use

coins, when you Hodling? OpenBazaar was launched a while ago, but it is too complicated and the seller has to be online for

you to access his goods.  Roll Eyes I hope you can improve on this concept with your site and bring something more user-friendly to

the Bitcoin scene.  Wink

Quick question:

What's your exact business model here? Are you planning on charging a percentage of the total value of the transaction or a flat fee?
If so, how much?

While I generally agree with everything AdolfinWolf said, that doesn't mean that you couldn't build a successful niche.
I'm really not a fan of the name though, way too convoluted and the name doesn't fit the project. I agree with Kprawn on that.

This is also the thing comes thru my mind too about the sites name using up HODL which isnt really connected to such marketplace that
do involves buying and selling but well we cant do anything about it since this is the choice of its owner. Its good to see another options or having
an another marketplace that do involves transactions with crypto and other payment processors.Features above is quite complete IMO but
you have said that there are several things that needed to be adjusted that have seen on older marketplace which i do agree on what you are pointing.

I don't like the way the items in the 'shop' section work- I have to hover over the item image to view pricing, and I'd much rather use a system where there's an item image and the pricing and related details below it, so I don't have to hover over the images of unfairly priced items.

It also seems like most of the items sold on the site are oriented towards European customers, and it should be possible to filter out items based on shipping location. Some physical items also don't have their actual shipping locations, with a placeholder like "ships in 3-5 days" in the shipping tab. I don't know if extra shipping'll be charged on the item or the shipping's free in this case.

My tips are:
1.Change your domain/brand.It's misleading and not-related to the e-commerse industry.
2.Focus on a niche or even a sub-niche.Don't compete with the big boys and don't try to sell everything to everyone.Amazon started selling books only, back in 1995.
3.Ask yourself why a customer would choose your marketplace instead of any other crypto or fiat marketplace on the internet.
Good luck with your project.

Hi guys,

first of all. I wish you all a merry christmas.

Regarding the marketplace project.
I've taken all opinions under consideration.

I've launched the demo website called Bitilly.

You can visit the website here:  https://bitilly.com

I hope the name makes sense now.
I've also added litecoin testnet coins so you can look around and pay for items with testnet coins.

The goal is also to add an internal exchange within the website.
It could be possible that the website is not reachable for a few seconds or its very slow with loading, thats because we are still working on it.  Tongue

Please keep in mind that the website is still in development.

Feedback, negative or positive is very much appreciated.

If you want to help realtime, please check this telegram group:  https://t.me/bitilly

Thanks in advance.

P.s. we have some issues with the registration/confirmation emails. It will be solved today.

The business model here is earning 2% on sold items and of course a little advertising.  Smiley

You are right. I've changed the shop section. Do you like it more this way?

About the shipping tab with filtering, I'm going to add it this week.

Made some changes this week.

Some users have added products, withdrawals and deposits are working.

We are almost ready to launch.

If you see anything you think that has to be changed or added, please let me know.  Grin
