Proofread simply means to crosscheck a written text either for spelling/grammar/punctuation etc errors..This is a recurring problem we're currently facing on this forum and it is simply disrespectful as it disregards the forum and it's members..

This is a public forum represented duly by citizens from almost all countries of the world, when trying to pass across a message that will be read by that much people,it is only proper to scrutinize/crosscheck what you're about to post..

One major reason for this is laziness and negligence, laziness in the fact that one scribbles down points to be posted but doesn't find it necessary to go through it to correct errors made inadvertently or even wrong corrections made by our phone prediction
Negligence is also another reason for this, the feeling
that as long as the forum is anonymous and no user knows the other personally, then there is no need striving for coherence and being totally articulate.

This happens to be one of the reason why noobs do not get merited,no member/merit source will like to merit a "half baked"message or one written incoherently, that others will have to struggle to understand what's being said

Always proofread/go through your post/new thread/comment before posting it, even if you missed some corrections before posting, simply edit the post and correct them before others start viewing them
It'll only help to promote the forum and help one rank up faster

that much people

I believe that this is incorrect grammar. What I believe you meant to say was “that many people”. I don’t proclaim to have perfect grammar myself, but if you’re going to be giving out a big speech about proofreading for grammar you should at least practice what you preach. Wink

Too many people are overly concerned about perfect grammar, spelling and things like that; in reality, the most important part of your post is coherence. As long as the user on the other end is able to understand what you are trying to say, then you’ve done your job as an effective communicator of ideas.

It’s unlikely, in my opinion, that grammar is the reason most people are not receiving merit. More likely, it has to do with the minuscule level of thought, effort and creativity going into each minute of their life.

Anyways, I think that the vast majority of posters dont use English as their native language, so minor grammatical errors are unavoidable. But I am with you, everyone should take the time and proof read his/her own text before posting.

I agree it's very easy to avoid mistakes if you proofread your post before submitting it. You need not much time for proofreading and it can avoid also misunderstandings if you have written someting wrong. Also it's better to read for everyone.

I like this international forum and it's obvious not everyone is a native english speaker. But if you try, you'll see a progress!

This is a multi national forum and that entails that most nation are represented some in which English is not there official language the put in effort to contribute here although yes there are local boards where the can go through but this forum is predominantly English speaking so I don't think grammatical errors should be taking seriously.. If the post can trigger message then there should be no issues

it's just a forum, not a job, as long as one can make themselves understood and just posting a comment it shouldn't matter too much.
of course, proper grammar and formatting when creating a thread might make people more interested in reading/replying.

I always suggest people to install Grammerly. It helps with proofreading your text and you can also learn why this is correct and that is wrong. It definitely helped me a lot.
The forum is filled with posts that contains not only grammatical errors but spelling errors as well which should be pretty easy to take care of.

it's just a forum, not a job
Doing bounties is indeed a job for a lot of people. Especially posters from 3rd world counties earn a fortune in eg. signature bounties compared to what they can earn with a regular job.

you might be right but the grammar necessary isn't "job-level", no bounty checks grammar do they?
I'm not saying people shouldn't try to write properly but at the same time a forum is a bit like a chat with posts!

Even reading the first post instead of answering the thread title helps a lot. Members here really don't read any post at all, if they see that the thread title is easy to answer or is asking for an opinion they will answer it right away. This members are really not interested about the topic as their main goal in posting is to fill up post requirements for their bounty campaign thus ruining the thread with their senseless post. Before they can even do proofreading they must do some actual reading itself, who knows they might not even need to proofread anymore as they already have knowledge on what they want to post.

Yeah, it's a good idea to double check your text before posting. But the problem that it can be difficult to spot mistakes when English isn't your first language. Even if you read text several times, you may not realize where you did mistake. But at least it would be good to check spelling - to do that you don't need to know langusge perfectly, you just can check how to spell word on Google.
I noticed that I make typing mistakes very often. Main reason of that - it's very easy to click wrong letter when you're typing on smartphone, especially when you're trying to type fast. And often I don't notice these mistakes. Not because I don't have time or I'm lazy. It's mainly because I'm feeling tired too much to spot these mistakes.
And now I noticed 2 typos in my text before publishing it. I wrote "mustake" instead of "mistake" and "eould" when it should be "would". Fixed Cheesy

Its not all about posting proofread English without grammatical errors, what's matters is that are you passing message through it,are they understanding what you're saying. Its hard time we try and overlook some minor errors and see meaning to what the poster is talking about

It does not matter to me as long as I understand what others meant. You dont really have to master the english language because you are not an english major and if your field does not require it why bother?
