Binance is most popular exchange, but it is crypto-to-crypto. If you need to deal with both fiat and crypto, go to CEX. It is also quite popular and easy to use. You can trade either crypto for crypto there, or fiat for crypto (https://cex.io/eth-btc). Also, Coinbase is a large cryptoto-fiat exchange. You should also take into account your location because some exchanges have geographical restrictions.

Poloniex, bitfinex, bitrex, kucoin, binance are just some of the exchanges I use, some of them for more than 2 years. Depends on your trading activities you need to be registered on couple of them minimum, if you like to trade with new tokens like to than you need to include less known exchanges like idex market is, allcoin, and many more of them. I`m here for a long time and believe me I`m registered on many of them, some of them I used only couple times because I couldn`t trade with some tokens on other exchanges. All in all I use reputable exchanges mostly, now kucoin is one of exchanges I use mostly, but everyone need to be open for new things, new exchanges, if you wish to participate in nice promotions, get some nice rewards if you are one of the first people.

there are 2 big differences in exchange crypto, namely decentralized exchange and exchange centralization.
good centralization in my opinion is binance, OKEx, huobi and hitbtc. they are safe to make transactions, trades, withdraw with awesome help desk support.
decentralized exchange where you directly interact on the market without third party assistance. some recommendations are IDEX, forkdelta and etherdelta.

What crypto exchanges can you recommend?
Binance and Bittrex are actually the two exchanges I can recommend personally right now. For most part of it, I will always recommend Binance any time any day, based on the fees, reputation, the chances of more development, the volume, the support, name them, all in one, that makes it a superb exchange to make use of.

However, you still need to understand that it is an exchange and you have none of your private keys which make you vulnerable to any thing that happens with the exchange in the long run, just as we saw with MtGox. Also, you need to always try as much as possible to keep your account very secured, as this is the best way you can at least not get screwed by hackers easily.

Well, as for the OP's question we can see a lot of different suggested exchanges. Most of them are good, like Binance, Kucoin and other top ranked exchanges. But, it's all up to a person who finds a certain exchange comfortable to trade in terms of fees, transactions, and safety.
PS. Op must try all of the best exchanges and choose what to use at your own comfortable pace.

What crypto exchanges can you recommend?
Sometimes it is best to go for your local exchanger (some countries have their own exchange) so if you do, maybe it’s best if you go for it, ask those living in your location that are also into cryptocurrency. If not you can choose exchanges like Cryptopia, Bitfinex, Poloniex or Binance. Those living in the states might prefer Coinbase due to their level of safety. But what some people don’t like about them is fees.

Putting bitcloud.pro out there.

Combines liquidity from all platforms so you can buy/sell much quicker. Variety of trading tools if need to market buy - also finds the best price for the altcoin pairs it supports.

Search Bitcloud on iOS and Playstore

I would say safety comes first so good comments and feedbacks from other customers matter. In addition to that it is important to simplify instructions and make tools easy to locate and navigate through them. Newbies will also like 24/7 support to ask questions if any arise.
Luckily most of lead exchanges have all those benefits Wink

feedbacks/reviews can be easily fake because they can be bought from different kinds of people in any parts of the world , so if i were you i wont start looking on them just to tell if the website or exchange is good or no good .

it is important to simplify instructions and make tools easy to locate and navigate through them.

user friendly sites are indeed more attractive especially if a newbie is accesing it  but even if veteran and pro users like me will always prefer sites that is simple and easy to use when compared to fancy sites that may seem to be more confusing  .

Newbies will also like 24/7 support to ask questions if any arise.

costumer support is another important factor to look on but a newbie friendly site do always come up with a q&a or faq section to answer some basic queries more faster .
