Hi everyone

The investment in tokens of a start-up ICO is certainly associated with high opportunities and risks. For a scientific paper I need information about the criteria of an ICO that are relevant for the investor. My primary concern is to find out what are the success factors for an ICO.

If you have bought tokens of an ICO in the past then I would like to know which criterion or motive was decisive for the purchase.
a) Was it, for example, the innovative business idea with a great product or a great service?
b) Or was it the prospect of price gains?
d) Did you convince the management or the brand?
e) Did you want to support a meaningful project in your opinion?
f) Did you want to gain experience by investing in an ICO?

I look forward to your answers

I see you are a beginner, you should be able to start posting on help & beginners to learn more about this forum.
But it's not bad to ask that question and here I will try to answer it. To determine which ICO is good for investing from the beginning the main factor that must be considered is to see whether the project is real or not, and then usually I always consider all the factors that I think can make the project a success starting from the project objectives (including vision and mission), then the team members' activeness and experience, partners and finally we must be able to predict feedback from the public and investors for the project. By doing that we can determine which ICO is good to invest from scratch or not.
You can try it, but sorry sometimes everything is not directly proportional to what we have examined.

There are many factors to consider when selecting an ICO or start up to invest it. The highlights for me are;
The team
The product
The process

The team is a broad bunch which includes devs, decision makers, analysts and also partnership. Credibility, experience, and if possible a proven track record are qualities I look for.

The product; is the idea or technology. Usefulness, uniqueness applications and necessity is what I look for.

The process; this includes everything from when the idea was thought of till infinity (every project needs to be forward thinking always with constant future goals)
It includes, websites, relations with investors, communication and how the team responds to hiccups and setbacks.

ICO investments, is a risky undertaking and never venture in if you are not convinced beyond reasonable doubt, for even then it's still a gamble

Move this thread to the Altcoin Section or the Beginners and Help.
There is no place for ICO/tokens in the Bitcoin section.
Just find the "move" button in the bottom left corner, and choose the right section.

It was more of a prospect of price gain which is B to me. The first time I've invested and was new here during that time, it was WAVES and Lisk that is making the forum rock. There were so much noise about it after the success of ETH ICO. I was amazed how it works yet I have no idea but I wanna gain profit so I did invest few USD so I bought BTC using my sister's card. Its an addicting experience after it until I participated to a scam ICO.

a. I prefer the ICO, the products and services offered are still in digital scope, so from there we can see that the potential for development is quite large
b. yes, it must be admitted that the price offered and the minimum purchase is also quite influential
d. its brand, especially if you have a partner with a familiar brand
e. of course, a project that only collects funds, enters exchange and after that there is no news of what is stated on the roadmap should be shunned
f. yes, I once joined, ICO and the first thing I joined ICO was also my last ICO. because suddenly the project and team suddenly announced KYC to investors

This type of investment is really very profitable. It all depends on many factors when choosing a coin to invest. It is necessary to properly analyze the idea of the project and its perspectives that are really needed and necessary. Just because I take and invest in any coin, I think it is not advisable.

Ico is an altcoin and you have to get aside from the bitcoin for that, it is different. If you wanna invest, then you should do your research properly on it and then invest according to your convenience.

I mainly focus on the project; whether it is good or does it have any potential or not. Then I look into the team behind the project and then comes how are they planning on their completing the project. Gotta look out for the scams.

I always lean on your letter a. I think this is all what you need yo give focus with when considering an investors perspective when it comes to a start up project. Why?

A solid business plan with a working product is always a win for every investors. I think this should be an investor mindset when it comes to ICO but in reality sometimes this isn't the case.

They just being hype by the project and invest on it. If you will think, most investors aren't that geek type of person to know if the project has actually potential, sometime they hired blockchain experts to support or seek advice for this. But for an entry level investors they dont have funds for such services so it would be best to have own knowledge about blockchain and see for yourself to decide which is which.

I have been around for some time to see how ICO fail or succeed.

The main factor is the unity and experience of the project development team.  In short the people behind the idea.  This should be the main concern here since they are the one who will deliver the products.  Without this stuff, the project will more likely to fail.  Unity of and compatibility of each developer should be considered greatly.  I have seen a project that has great developer being torn apart by the incompatibility of developers which at the end made them walk in different path leaving the project to ruin.

Let me give you an advice about new start up project. I rarely fond on investing on ICOs especially those ICO that have same concept with the pioneered one. What I did is I compared their business proposal to the exisiting known project. Pkus you need to consider the team members or thr founding members. Usually they are just recycle developers for failed ICOs before. Why they joined again and create a new product? There are plenty of reason right, but one thing is sure of this. They want to earn big cash out of a new ptoject which is fresh and new. Why they dont focus on the first one, or maybe its already earned and they want new money machine. A real blockchain enthusiast will not easily quit hence will focus more on the project he devoted to make.

Different investors invest on a ICO for different reason. As their startegy differs, so does their reasons to buy the ICO. But, most often they look for the  reputation of the team that develop and maintains it, the quality of the product, the trading process of that ICO, chances aor evidence of it being a scam and the chance of profit drom it.

There are a few fundamental things to consider before making a decision on if you're going to invest in the ICO or not. First off the core of the project is what their idea is, the strength of it and how they plan on executing it. Also doing a little research into the development team behind it, seeing how active their community is, if they update their progress on how far along they are on their project. These aspects play an important part in helping you decide which ICO is worth investing and avoid being scammed.

that is not applicable for all ICO there are tons of projects that fall behind the price of their initial token offering during the exchange listings and deals that's one of the critical points for the price most especially if you've allocated much more for bounty hunters, advisers and other advertisement mediums, I would pick A and B innovation for their future services over the platform and for the prospect gains.

The success of an ICO is the right team and the right alliances. The ideas and the developers are secondary because this can be easily bought, but the partners and other members are not.

a) Was it, for example, the innovative business idea with a great product or a great service?
Both, just look up for projects with have real world usage or somehow unique.

b) Or was it the prospect of price gains?
We are targeting the same thing but project that do able to sustain on longer runs will really come to this situation.

d) Did you convince the management or the brand?
What you mean on convincing them?

e) Did you want to support a meaningful project in your opinion?
Why not? We are here to invest into projects that would have a real innovation at the same time that can give us profits.

f) Did you want to gain experience by investing in an ICO?
Experience is everything and you wont get any idea if you wouldnt tend to try.

There are several factors one needs to keep in mind before investing in an ICO. While this type of topic has been discussed several times, I would just suggest some key points anyway. They are: Business Model, Legitimate Development Team, Technology and Innovation, Community, Association with Other Companies etc.

Everyone looks for different characteristics when it comes to ICO investment but there are some common principal. Like the development team, business plan, innovations, community support etc.
