Hi everyone,

I've spent the last few months building a Chrome browser extension called Moon that allows you to make purchases anywhere online instantly, securely and without fees. Now I'm looking for beta testers to try it out!

Here's how it works:

1) Install the browser extension (Moon)
2) Follow the prompts to connect your Coinbase account (other wallets in the future)
3) When on a checkout page, Moon will give you the option to pay directly from one of your Coinbase wallets, just select the wallet and click "Pay with Moon" to instantly complete your purchase

Initially this beta will only support shopping on Amazon.com and only Coinbase wallets are supported as a payment source, but we will be adding more down the line.

You can sign up for the beta here: https://paywithmoon.com

I'm a big believer in the power of crypto as a usable currency and I hope that this browser extension helps get us to that point sooner rather than later. Let me know what you guys think!

Thanks everyone!
It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Definitely an idea that has been needed for some time (surprised Coinbase doesn't have a browser extension already) but without some sort of reputation behind it, there's just too much risk to install and attempt it's use.

We definitely need to build a reputation as a trustworthy product. How have other financial products earned your trust?

We definitely need to build a reputation as a trustworthy product.
Sure you can!
So why not starting by: [suggestions]
- Let the community know who is the team behind the product (didn't find any information in your website) with matching names to their professional/social profiles.
- Proved partenerships with reputable compagnies in the market will surely help fast growth of your rate.
- Using social media to communicate with your influencers and always ask for critical feedbacks. [need to hire professional managers]
- ...etc

How have other financial products earned your trust?
As far as i can estimate, trust in this forum means a ranked account with good trust-rate (honest trade-history/reputable management of one of the running services/spreading knowledge and positivity/...etc). This will take you through a lifetime journey but i encourage you to do so.
Suggestions: Never think to build a reputaion here only because you want to promote your product (this won't work). Read carefully the forum rules and stay away from any shady activity (always ask reputable users, they are very helpful) .
Warning: Do never think to buy an account.

Your site takes a long time loading. May be you can improve its accessibility to be easy reachable for users with low internet debit (like me) . Smiley

I'm always skeptical about using browser extensions for shopping and other financial activities.
If a big company like Coinbase really wanted to create such browser extension, they would have probably gone it a few years ago. They didn't create such extension because it's kinda pointless.
Why do you wanna build this for Coinbase accounts only?

Yeah, with Metamask doing extensions long ago, am also surprised we don't see Coinbase or say even BitPay extensions, the latter perhaps the processor most used with merchants. I do foresee extensions being developed for LN, once their offering comes properly out of Beta, althought this may start as plugins to existing clients like Electrum first. I'm more comfortable with plugins for clients I trust, rather than extensions for browsers - bearing in mind we've already seen exploits from extensions like Metamask. I could be completely misguided on which is more secure.

No one will use it unless any third party audits it. So it's better to get it audited by a reputable person in this forum or agency.  If this project is legit then this project will reach the moon.

This is all really great feedback. Thank you for your thoughtful suggestions!

I'll be adding information on the team to the website with links to our social accounts. We're working to establish partnerships and get the buy-in of some key crypto influencers to vouch for our reputability. Do you have any recommendations for brands and influencers in the community you particularly trust that might be a good fit? Always looking for new ideas.

Will work on improving the site for sure and will be much more active on this forum, not just for the purposes of promoting the product, but because I really do want to engage with and learn from the community here (I'm mostly on the subreddits).

Why do you wanna build this for Coinbase accounts only?

We started with Coinbase because it has a large user base (at least in the US, which is where we are based), but we will be adding other integrations and wallets in the future. We just had to start somewhere. What integrations and features would you like to see?

Always good to start somewhere, sure, and can't fault you for choosing Coinbase, but as you'll concede, that cuts out the rest of the world for now (except now Coinbase also is in the UK).

I get the feeling if you're able to somehow integrate Lightning Network, and do it well, you might get a lot of new users once adoption gets well and truly underway (I believe 2019, rather than 2020, might not be an unrealistic timeframe, given how quickly it seems to have come out of the blocks). We're already seeing good clients being developed, the limits are getting higher, and with less attention on the price action, proper development seems to be getting its fair share of focus.

We definitely need to build a reputation as a trustworthy product.

An audit from a reputable 3rd party could be a good step forward.

For me your extension is not interesting yet, because you are US oriented and I am in EU, but I would not install your extension just like that, especially as the history already has a Bitcoin ticker extension that stole Bitcoin and a Mega extension that stole Monero. Also, I guess that your extension will access all opened pages, and this usually includes web wallets and exchanges. So there are some risks there when people installs such an extension.

Of course, it's your product and your decisions. If the community will not care about these possible issues and will give great feedback over time, you may be in luck and may not have to spend money on an audit.

And congrats for the idea, it's an interesting niche you found, and a very useful one.

I've met with some auditing groups. It looks like that may be a good move.

What do you guys think of regular wallet vs custodian wallet? Do you think there is a market those less tech savvy to have their coins under custodianship and FDIC insured?

Nah. If you're going to invest on bitcoin or any other cryptocurrencies, the first thing you should learn is how to get a wallet and have it secure by yourself. It doesn't make sense if you will go for a third party to insured your coins. Just like what we have been saying here, not your keys not your coins. You don't need to be a tech savvy here, just knowledge of few important features of a wallet and I think your off to go.

Seems I am the only one who can't understand how this extension works? At first there is no way to make it work anywhere online, would edit title.
Then what happens? I log in on amazon, added items in card and decided to check out, now your extension popups and offers me to pay with bitcoin. I pay with bitcoin but how amazon receives payment? Extension makes virtual visa card, fills payment fields automatically and send payments?
Also ask on this question:Can I pay prime membership that way? If I pay by your extension, how does refund happens? Where do I get money?

Is a good thing. I know that Opera has a similar plugin. Not yet used, as there was no urgent need. I think that in the next couple of years they will become more relevant. However, so far it is a narrow product, which remains to be observed. If you expand the capabilities of the product, you will definitely find your audience. With the proper approach, you can compete in this direction.

It needs to be open source, audited even if it's by a few people in the community or academics.

A great idea but there's no way I'd link anything to my Coinbase or any crypto account without being 100% sure that I could trust it.
