Hello. Im a newbie in bitcointalk forum. And I have some question about plagiarism and spam.

I have just seen this reply of another member:

I try to investigate him and catch it in his history:

I can ensure that he plagiarized. But I want to know if someone reply like him (plagiarizing a part), may I report him?

Yes - report him.

Both examples that you have linked to are barn-door plagiarism. It doesn't matter if he adds a few words or changes the odd word or two - it is clear the post has been copied. He will receive a permanent ban. When you report the posts, be sure to include a link to the original post that was plagiarized. Something along the lines of "Plagiarized post. Original here: URL".

I've reported him too for good measure.

You will find plenty of examples there, you can post your investigation in the thread above and report the plagiarism post with a link to the investigation post as reference.
The case us talking about is a pure plagiarism, even the typos are the same, so no doubt at all

Spam would be more along the lines of ranting irrelevantly, flooding a board with threads/replies that are unsubstantial or maliciously provocative. The difference should be pretty plain, because with plagiarism you're dealing with directly copied ideas, replies or any source material verbatim. It is unlikely, beyond a reasonable doubt, that two low-ranking accounts end up saying the exact same thing, spelling, grammar, mistakes and all on the same exact day within the same exact thread. Guaranteed, if it has been written elsewhere it is plagiarism, outside of benign/daily phrases.

This is plagiarism, it should be reported and if you see similar connection then I would report it without asking for advice. The moderators and staff do a pretty good job of judging these cases themselves, and ultimately it is their decision regardless of what anyone's opinion on the matter is.

That sounds more like trolling than spam.  I understand spam to be posting basically the same post in multiple threads, which usually happens when someone is trying to spam something they're advertising or when someone is pissed off at another member and keeps posting whatever their beef is in many threads (but with little difference in the content).

As you guys have already mentioned, what OP found is a case of pure plagiarism, and good catch on his part for finding it and all of you who reported it.  It amazes me that idiots will do this just to boost their post count; think it's OK; and think nobody will catch them.  I've never seen this happen on any other forum I've been a part of.

I was reluctant about adding in the "maliciously provocative", because you're right that does push it more in the direction of trolling. I probably should've said something more along the lines of "maliciously unproductive", and by that I mean that they flood the service so that the rest of us cannot use it or bury the good discussion so that we have more difficulty to find it. I agree with spamming as you've described, and believe I just did a poor job of explaining it the first time around.

I've seen this happening on multiple forums, so I can't say this is unique; however, it certainly seems more prominent on forums that have an element of financial gain or a marketplace.

It's always irritating to realize when someone copies your own thoughts directly without any link to your original posts...
I have also started to report plagiarism after I found out that someone had copied one of my posts...
Since then I'm trying to find copipasters and I also use the above mentioned thread to report them.
Make sure that this is not your last catch, you can help the forum if you report these kind of users when you read thru the topics.
Also don't forget to check the modlog (#1 post in the copypaster thread how to check modlog) if the reported user has been banned and edit your post accordingly.
