How are non-BTC SHA256 altcoins different from one another?

Hi folks,
There are many altcoins now.
Some use SHA256, some use Scrypt, etc.
But how do ones that use SHA256 in particular differ from one another?
I have a feeling the difference is rather trivial and meaningless.
Can anyone explain it in technical terms?

BTC coins can differ quite a lot from each other, even though they use the same hashing algorythm.
LTC has smaller block time and larger cap, PIVX is 100% PoS with governance and zerocoin. These are two examples that are both forks of BTC that work quite different than BTC.

Most of them are the same and each coin wants to find a special term for same shit for marketing manner.
Encryption technology and science enough for now but, we need innovation on consensus protocols.

Some can have a different number for maximum coins.
Some can have bigger blocks.
Some can have faster blocks.
Some may not have SegWit.
Some may have different emission curve.
One can even make a new Ethereum like platform with SHA256 as hashing algo.
