I don't think bitcoin is only for rich people. Bitcoin is for all . He who wants to earn bitcoin he can.There are lots of way to make profit in bitcoin as we know. You can trade ,ICO,gambling,mining you don't need to have enough money for it but you have to be smart ,patience as you said. I belong to that school of thought as well. Bitcoin is over 6000$ and for me to make something good investing in Bitcoin definitely good capital in place else investment of 100-400$ is just mere waste of time.
