He had reportedly purchased Bitcoins worth $1,000 but someone duped him, following which he lodged a complaint with the FBI, but did not get the desired response.

So the accused made several calls to the Miami airport and threatened to attack it. “I will come with AK-47, grenade, suicide belt and kill everyone,” the youth, whose identity was not disclosed, said in his calls.

If you're going to make these kind of threats, you probably shouldn't do it on VOIP that can be traced to your IP address. Better yet, don't make threats to international airports. The US government takes that pretty seriously post-9/11.

Hopefully this kid doesn't have to serve too much time over a hoax. I hear Indian prisons are quite bad...

That's his problem. I don't feel for him at all, especially in times where you know that pulling off shit like this targeted at airports is going to be taken very seriously by the respective authorities.

If he isn't aware of what he put himself into, he needs mental help because there is something horribly wrong with him in that case. Him being a frustrated teenager is definitely not an excuse for what he did.

The severity of his punishment comes down to how much of a signal to the outside world the authorities want it to be.

He did just messed up his entire life because of such ridiculous move that he done. Telling the authorities with those words arent childs plays that arent gonna take it seriously and that boy do really have that mental problem.

$1000 would really be a big money for some but he should control himself not to voice out those words. Regrets would always be in the end.

Agreed. The United States has become very paranoid and have deployed the NSA, Homeland Security and more to monitor all social media and most of the internet for any threats or signs of terrorist activities.

I reckon typing words like dirty bombs, nuke, New York, Bin Laden, ISIS might put this post in their database.

Which ever country it would be such calls should never happen as people need to understand that it is not a joke as it involved life risks if it happens really so police gets alert and their procedure starts which also put other people out their in uncomfortable positions. It is obvious they should be prison and charged penalty as well.

Amazing things come to mind of today's teenagers, this is just another example as today's society shapes young people minds. First he take 1000$ from his father and make as he claim massive profit from that, but then because of the well known human greed in combination with the obvious ignorance he lost all the money. Idea that FBI solves his situation is really unrealistic, he is not USA citizen - and to acting terrorists is the stupidest thing he could do.

Not only he did lose money, now he is on India&USA black list as a potential threat - which means that there is no travel outside the country and his picture is probably on every USA airport and most of the world airports too.

Lol, this kid is messing with the wrong people. no matter what happens to you in the U.S never make such kind of threats to the U.S People. their biggest fear is a terror attack and by saying he's going to attack one of the biggest U.S airports he's putting himself in the game that he'll never win. Now, the U.S government will do everything possible to track him down and answer for his words/crimes. To be realistic $1,000 is not worth losing your freedom at all, I know for sure the U.S government will ban him from going to the U.S first and who knows what will follow later? If you are threatening to attack people for only $1,000 it is a sign that this kid clearly doesn't have the money to buy AK-47, grenades, and the suicide belt. what a stupid kid!

Can't believe I'm going to use this phrase twice in a few days: Bitcoin terrorist?

1. Teens are dumb. I was one. A really dumb one.
2. Maybe he really has mental health issues. In which case, it's a pity scamsters usually find a quick entry into guys like that. Goes beyond gullibility.
3. To selectively quote the article, word to the wise, don't invest what you can't lose. Certainly not daddy's money. Guess fools and their money really are just waiting for divorce.

This kid must be very, very dumb. Why threatened to attack innocent people for his duped bitcoins, instead of threatening to commit suicide himself? I mean it is his fault, not the people. If he is not lucky he's going to lose both his freedom and the bitcoins too. there are certain ways to handle things in a proper way, I think he should go to the local police to make complains they'll handle the situation in their own way but threating to blow up the airport in the U.S. well, he's going to put himself into a serious trouble.

Probably this is like in movie scene. The kid sleeping in his room and them boom, Uttar Pradesh police department’s anti-terrorism squad (probably with the help of the US in the background) pick up this kid and bring him to interrogate.  Grin. Would have to agree that this is one of the most stupid thing to do, threatening US because we all know that their full might will come to you. He already made a good returns on his initial $1000 (taken from his father), perhaps he wanted more, so its a big lessons for him to learn...in jail.

In a sense you have to feel some pity for this child. Just imagine his disappointment after he had lost his fathers money and also not making those huge profits that he had previously. I also advised some of my family members to buy some bitcoins, after what happened in 2017 and most of them are disappointed with their returns for this year.

The difference is, I am a adult and I know how to handle disappointments, because I am a experienced trader and I had my fair share of disappointments over the years. Yes, he was greedy, like most of us and he probably made promises to family members, like I did.

Let's cut him some slack, we also made some silly mistakes when we were 18-years old.  Roll Eyes

This needs to be put into prespective, losing out on $1000 for this guy is like the average dude in the U.S losing 1,000,000 dollars, and in that situation perhaps that person would do something stupid as well
