Looks like someone a week ago, converted all my altcoins to BTC then transferred it out.

Reported to Bittrex but what are the chances of getting anything back (it was 0.12 BTC about $700)? Are Bittrex liable at all?

Its strange because normally bittrex emails whenever someone logs on but I didnt get it at the time. I can see the dates/times these transactions occured.

They're very likely not going to reimburse you. You should still try to talk to support though I suppose, so you at least know what happened.

16. DISCLAIMER OF DAMAGES
IN NO EVENT WILL BITTREX, ITS AFFILIATES AND THEIR RESPECTIVE SHAREHOLDERS, MEMBERS, DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, ATTORNEYS, AGENTS, REPRESENTATIVES, SUPPLIERS OR CONTRACTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INCIDENTAL, INDIRECT, SPECIAL, PUNITIVE, CONSEQUENTIAL OR SIMILAR DAMAGES OR LIABILITIES WHATSOEVER (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF DATA, INFORMATION, REVENUE, PROFITS OR OTHER BUSINESS OR FINANCIAL BENEFIT) ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SITE, THE SERVICES, THE BITTREX MATERIALS, ANY PERFORMANCE OR NON-PERFORMANCE OF THE SERVICES, OR ANY OTHER PRODUCT, SERVICE OR OTHER ITEM PROVIDED BY OR ON BEHALF OF BITTREX, WHETHER UNDER CONTRACT, STATUTE, STRICT LIABILITY OR OTHER THEORY (INCLUDING, FOR AVOIDANCE OF DOUBT, ANY NEGLIGENCE OF BITTREX), EVEN IF BITTREX HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

Their terms basically say they're not liable for anything even if they're negligent lmao. You can probably contest this, but you agreed to it, and it's going to take way more than $700 so it's not going to be worth it. It's best to simply avoid them in the future.

standard thief /scammer tactic

steal less than the travel costs of victim visiting the thief/scammer to get slapped with a wet fish
steal less than the legal costs of taking the thief to court

=
get away with it.

its even why american cops get away with border collections theft. they can wrap people in legal costs of thousands of dollars and years of time. just to make people not want to collect their innocents funds back that get taken by crocked cops

same goes for banks. why do you think they only insure holdings for under $100k(varies per country).
if they hold/freeze money under that amount... they just get the insurance to pay out if you bother to try starting a legal dispute. but hope you just dont bother.

if the insurance pays out. their premium moves up slightly. but they still have the real "frozen" money to pay the premium so they still profit

take MTGox. 4 years on and ......
.. yep add on loads of legal costs, delay for years to cut down on claimants willing to keep up the fight. and then give out pennies on the dollar... eventually

so i hope you now realise why trusting agencies/third parties/authorities is bad and why bitcoin stored on your own personal private key is best

This is totally unusual, every time you login in your account a notification will be sent to your email. Not unless if someone gets access to your device used which is already logged in but it's less to happen.
You can track your coin with the address used to withdraw but there's minor chance or should I say zero chance that you will get back the lost funds.

Had you try to reach the support? Though nobody can't guarantee you a refund so it's better to move on to this.
I must assume that you're a day trader? Since you leave your coins in an exchange which is risky, you know anytime can happen overnight.

Too bad you experience this in a hard way.

Well, bittrex sends notification email wen someone logs in using a new ip address, unless your device was compromised, you should have that email.

As for reimbursement part, Bittrex is not liable here. You are responsible for the safety of your account. You can track the address to which your btc went but you can't do anything to get it back. Take it as a lesson, always use 2FA and never leave your coins on exchange unless you day trade. Move on. Good Luck.

Yes exactly. Every time I login I get an email.

I got no email to verify login, or note the login, or the withdrawal. No idea what happened here.

Yeh I can see the bitcoin account with my bitcoin still in it. The bittrex logs even tell me the IP address of the person that logged in poiting to an ISP in Germany.

I'd continue to push this problem on here, other areas of the forum, then Reddit, and so on and so forth. The only thing that's going to help you is contacting the Bittrex support team -- but the only way you're going to get in contact with people quickly is going to be pushing the issue on social media.

Good luck, and I hope everything works out!

The problem you need to raise is why the 2fa didn't kick in. You should be using Google authenticator or some type of sms code. Even small exchanges like gravies won't allow you to withdraw without 2fa

Its strange because normally bittrex emails whenever someone logs on but I didnt get it at the time. I can see the dates/times these transactions occured.

In every account we have there is always the email and some authentication.
Even with out them you are the one who is responsible on your account.
You should make your password safe from other people.
There will be no return nor exchange once the transfer is done!

It's impossible that a "stranger" will get accessed to your Bittrex account and do some withdrawals because it needs an email authentication or 2FA. If your email registered to Bittrex and Bittrex account have the same password then there is a possibility that the hacker just deleted the email associated with Bittrex for you not to noticed it quick.

I've read the same case in the past and quite impossible that the mistake is on the user side if we will based just on their statement. I don't know your whole story but maybe there are case that you missed or didn't noticed that leads into this event.

Anyways it's better if you moved this thread on Exchanges section.

I feel Bittrex will claim they do not owe you, as the hack on your account is not a global, but peculiar to your own account, so they might claim it is your negligence that cause the hack on your account, you are your own security in the crypto space, ensure you guard against future occurrence by being careful with your private keys and do not allow anyone have access to your computer.

did you have API keys? that may have leaked and the hacker may have gained access and made a withdrawal that way. in which case there is no "login" record.

i wouldn't get my hopes up with Bittrex. this exchange has not been trustworthy for more than a year now ever since they boldly scammed thousands of users and robbed them easily by blocking their accounts overnight.

Sorry for your lost. in order to save you from further hacking I will advice you to change your mail password. probably you even use the same password for your bittrex and email account. you said you use to receive mail when you login to your account but probably the hacker deleted the mail from your inbox. I dont know why he did that beside he doesnt need to. I do not think there is any chance that bittrex will help you get your coin back. since the coin has been transfered to a private wallet.

I am using several exchanges for my coins and bittrex is one of the best i most trustful one i believe. They would help in any bad condition but i believe not yours. Because you let some one in to your account. I think you don't use google autenticator, do you? If you use it was impossible to steal from your wallet. Please upload the google autenticator to your smart phone and never face a bad thing like this one again..

It might be possible that they hacked your email account too, and just deleted the notification. Tell me that you did not link your Gmail or Yahoo account to your exchange account, because they are one of the hackers favourite accounts to hack.

Bittrex will just wash their hands on individual hacks, because they are covered in their ToS. These companies will only do something when there are a large hack and they stand to lose customers with the bad publicity, if they do nothing.  Roll Eyes

Try to check your spam email, sometimes the email goes to the spam folder. If your assets still exist, immediately contact Cust-service to temporarily freeze your account, then you can change the password along with Google Auth for security.

I guess you won't get back the btc that you lost. When it comes to these kinds of hack incidents, they'll gonna wash their hands off of this and blame you instead for not keeping your account secured from phishers or hackers.

Better stay away from these kinds of platforms that doesn't care about the welfare of their clients. There are still a lot of platforms that you can go trade cryptos. If you want to dispute then you can send email to support and ask them why didn't you get an email notification about the transaction made.

Make sure that your email is not compromised as well for future safety of your money and avoid clicking or visiting suspicious links.
