Fox News has just projects that Democrats will retake the US House of Representatives.

Will this result in Trump getting impeached? How many times? I suspect he will get impeached for dubious reasons at least 3 times, but will likely overwhelmingly get acquitted in the Senate each time.

I also suspect that this will result in government shutdowns, possibly one or two extended shutdowns.

I don't think we will see much get done legislatively over the next two years once the new congress is sworn in. However we may see some legislation pass the House before the end of the current term.

I suspect this will make it easier for Trump to get reelected, and that Republicans will see major congressional gains in 2020.

What do you think?

It's still early hours. Indeed a rise of democratic seats in the house is projected but I wouldn't see it being as big as some outlets have been claiming it could be. In a way, the polls proved to not be very reliable in predicting US election outcomes under the current political sentiment. So even if this is from the conservative Fox News, I wouldn't hold my breath over that projection.

Also, probably the projection OP talks about from Fox News:

I'm reasonably happy with the result. 2 years of government getting virtually nothing done, and politicians ripping each other apart: a dream come true!

I heard an interesting proposal a while ago that if the House was pretty evenly-divided like it is now, then they should select a bipartisan Speaker who would focus on common ground instead of whipping his caucus into crushing the minority. That'd probably be the smart thing for them to do, but honestly I think the Dems are going to get browbeaten into making Pelosi speaker again.

If the Democrats impeach Trump but can't get him convicted, then they're probably done for in 2020. If they lay low, then they have a favorable Senate map in 2020, and they're fairly likely to get full control at that time.
