tomatocage as escrow and John Smith my token buyer

I like to share my story without the consent of tomatocage, recently I was moving on to sell my token IMVR for .25usd cent per token and I gradually found a buyer name John Smith he contacted me on telegram I post it on marketplace which you can found l here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5050488.msg46941107#msg46941107
We're almost on a deal and tomatocage was the escrow he pick and contacted via bitcointalk.org profile Gmail address and tomatocage sent out Gmail to me stated that the only thing he can do for me is to hold the funds until I can provide tx transaction that I gave the said token to the buyer
But we're almost on a deal and this John Smith hurried up things to me which I expect suspicious so I pretend that I lost my json file format on myetherwallet and I decided to postpone the deal.

And found out that Krispy and tomatocage was Link to each other I just can't stop thinking what if this guy name John Smith related to Krispy thus stumbled across this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1171059.msg12363857#msg12363857

When choosing an escrow,  it has to be a user who you both are on preferably one with a high trust rating. You can use https://bpip.org to find the most trusted users on the forum.

If your opinion if the planned escrow is tainted you can suggest another or back out of the deal.

I did check it. And if you read my post well I did not say he was an untrustworthy member.
I only linked him to where he can find the list of most trusted members in the forum (some have more trust ratings)
And they can use the data to both agree on an escrow.
If I were to enter a trade, I would start from contacting those on the top of the rating, until I get a free and willing user.

Could it be someone else sent you an email with tomatocage's return address? That's easy to fake.

Loycev, is right.

Probably this could be the reason why the user want to get the exchange to be done quickly. If I were you OP wait for the BCT account of the escorow service to reply your PM you so that you will get a legit email add or a telegram channel from the escorow service provider. I doubt that escorow service provider is doing scam for he had a good trust rating.

Anybody can send an email with a certain send-from address. If it's the real tomatocage, he should be able to reply to an email you sent to that address, and I don't think that has happened.

John Smith sound like a generic fake name.

Couple things -

If you check Tomatocage's Sig space, it states the Escrow service is Temporarily closed.

I don't see anywhere that you have any legitimate correspondances from them, I also don't see the ones from "John Smith" (The irony is killing me)

The best thing you can do when in doubt, is request that the Escrow agent Sign a message from their staked BTC address, this is usually posted in their Escrow thread, or would be staked somewhere on the forum.


You made a good call in stopping as soon as things felt iffy. There are a lot of scams out there and as people have pointed out there are ways of cheating email addresses and other messages. They can't cheat a signed message from a staked BTC address. As long as it is quoted or archived elsewhere to prevent it having been tampered with in the case of a hacked or sold account.

Plus Tomatocage hasn't been active in months and, as was pointed out, his escrow service has been suspended per the message in his signature.  Even if it was the real Tomatocage account, there's been some suspicion that whoever is controlling it now may not be the original owner who earned all that postitive trust.  Glad OP backed out before he got scammed, which I have zero doubt is what would have happened.

I'm gonna contact him this evening again, and let you guys know, if he insist tomatocage as an acting escrow I would back out everything once again. I will insist him yogg and monbux or any other acting escrow here on forum not tomatocage if he have two different handling account being escrow I'd love to being scam.
