In the long run, I think a cryptocurrency's success is dependent upon the number places that you can use it as payment. I've seen some lists of where you can use Bitcoin as payment. But are there any lists of where you can use other alternate cryptocurrencies as payment? Or is there a good way to track whether the number of places where you can use alternate cryptocurrencies as payment is growing or shrinking?

You can't win if you don't play. But you can't play if you lose all your chips. First I found bitcoin (BTC). Then I found something better, Monero (XMR). See GetMonero.org

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

IIRC there was someone selling a 5970 for I0coins a while back, but beyond that I know of no shops or individuals taking alt coins.

A few shops currently take Solidcoin:

    Arimaa Game Set
    Instant Proxy
    PyroChem
    Dropbox Invite
[/ul

And a few individuals as well. Other than that, however, it definately doesn't have a massive market.
