I only travel outside the country maybe 3 to 4 times a year but whenever I do I wish there is just one currency that I could use whether it is "real" money or virtual money. I just think it would be more efficient if there is one common currency since the world is getting smaller anyway and traveling the world has been in vogue for quite some time now. I can use my credit card, yes, but it often makes me wonder how much money would I be charged at the end of the billing period if say the currency exchange changes a lot from the time I swiped my credit card. And well, I just don't want the bank charges. Is there a possibility for a crypto to be able to provide this service?

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

Maybe this should go to the Economy thread. But yes, I get where you're coming from. I think it is safe to say that we all want to pay things for the price that is listed from the time that we bought it. Maybe a crypto could do this in the future.

I think traveling outside the country 3 to 4x a year is already more than the average. I'm lucky if I get to do that once a year. Anyway, yes it would be great if there one currency that could be used anywhere. A private company may be able to do that if they have a lot of capital and influence in their hands. They could partner with the largest corporations so that their currency could be adopted worldwide. A crypto company would be a logical choice.

The beautiful part of the cryptocurrency is that every business can create their own microeconomy with their token/coin. You are not dependent on single currency and its set of rules. In the long run this still creates a centralized power no matter what. If you have multiple currencies and can exchange them easily via any exchange than that would be perfect. You don't like how company X is dictating the pace and rules? Use Company Y and their currency if it suits you better.

It might seem that 1 currency would solve problems, but that would just create a dictatorship like you have it now with central banks controlling almost everything by just printing more money.

The way I see it, if there are thousands of currencies out there, you can choose whichever is best for you. If you don't like it, just exchange it for another currency fast and easy on any exchange online.

That is how the future should look like.

Each company has its own microeconomy and not the governments.

One currency would rock the whole world off balance I think. At least right now. However if more institutions would accept virtual money we might have better luck. Otherwise if we give one "usual" currency to all the countries, it value will probably drop and it would create a loooooot of problems.

Cryptocurrency definitely has all criteria and potential to make "one currency" happen. Unfortunately banks and govs don't seem too willing to see that happen and are planning their respective cryptocurrencies.

In order for a single currency to really happen, banks' and govs' upcoming cryptos must fail.

I guess, that's our future anyways. It's not that convenient to travel arond the world with all of this "paperwork", never knowing how much money you are going to spend at the end... Huh

Interesting point you’ve raised. I think I’d be in favor of a global currency as well--- it would sure make life easier, not just when traveling. But I think we’re headed to this direction, of going cashless, I mean. This is the point of having virtual currencies, right? And I’m actually seeing more features in altcoins now that seem to have the structure for it. With more cryptos now exhibiting more features that make them efficient financial instruments, we could eventually use it for pay for everything –a bag of sugar to even a house! I’ve been reading up about Virie. According to its whitepaper, it’s a virtual marketplace with an easy-to-use cryptocurrency feature. I think it gives us a glimpse of what going cashless would be like. Looks very promising.

Actually, there are an indefinite number of currencies. The ones listed are simply the ones the governments accept. But, you can make a currency out of everything you own, and use it as money if you can find somebody who will trade it with you.

Blockchain technologies are one of the things that are helping people turn anything they want into a currency, and essentially a virtual currency. Notice how we have in the range of about 2,000 altcoins, now. This could expand to billions, depending on what one owns and wants to monetize.

I think that a unique currency could be a way to equalize markets. It will be quite beneficial for countries with low income or undeveloped ones because this way their governments will be forced to "play" and pay as others do and this will make less people move to other countries to work and leave children behind in grandparents care just to bring more money on the table.. Also, making a unique currency world-wide will be beneficial to the local producers. Instead of traveling to cheaper countries for groceries (like Danes that go to Germany or Romanians going to Bulgaria) will increase the local production and will give a bigger profit to the country market.

The whole concept by Satoshi Nakamoto, was decentralised currency not "currencies"....

All other 5000 cryptocurrencies were modified accordingly...

Why all of us just stick to Bitcoin , it might be outdated technology, but is the first one and just use it.

The more cryptocurrency, it going to devalued other coins as well.

What is your thought?

The currency should be Feeless and Instant. Imagine paying for a small grocery shopping and worrying about the tx fees or the long confirmation times.
This is where the next generation cryptocurrencies like the x42 protocol have a head start.
To top it you can host dApps on the x42 feeless blockchain thereby enabling to host your own project.
With increasing adoption, this is definitely achieveable.

I think it will not be long for the use of cryptocurrencies to reach this point where they can be commercialized anywhere in the world, I think we will see that day.

i think it will take a very long time (or never) for a crypto coin to be adopted as a currency.
for example look at the EURO. it entered into circulation in 2002 and it took 16 years to be adopted as a currency in 22 countries.
and this is a stable currency with no 50% massive value jumps over night.
maybe if we manage to keep the bitcoin value steady for a couple of years the governments will maybe look into it. maybe.
but i think the high volatility of the crypto coins is the main reason why they will probably never be adopted as currencies.

Wouldn't it be great if there is one currency that we can use whenever we travel to another country? It would save us time and money due to foreign exchange rates. If we could use cryptocurrency for any purchase when we're travelling, then we wouldn't have to worry about computing how much a product would cost in our local currency.
