I came across a very curious case

Mercatox allows you to buy and sell over 100 cryptocurrencies. It gives you access to a multi-currency e-wallet and a wide range of currency pairs.

How to register on Mercatox
To begin with, you need to create your Mercatox account. Go to Mercatox. You will see the following picture:
--------------------------------------rest snipped--------------------------

User written a plagarized post at "November 13, 2018, 07:38:40 AM".

Ironically written one more post  afterwards emphasizing about forum rules at "November 13, 2018, 09:52:41 PM"

I have observed and seen the lamentation of most newbies who have being ban from the forum due to uncompliance to strictly adhered rules on the forum.
The question is as experience as we are, what should we do to support newbies so as to imbibe them in the knowledge of how to stay alive on the forum?

unfortunately got merited at "November 14, 2018, 07:30:39 AM" but fortunately banned now.

This raises below question on my mind.
1. Are all these newbies are really newbies? or they are banned plagiarist that are coming back again and again?
2. They know the rule but they break it because newbie is a throw way account and with all they tactics they might get lucky with 1 Merit.
3. Are'nt these plagiarist  newbies are making life of genuine newbies more difficult?

My Suggestion:
1.At least check bpip to see if user is autobanned before giving Merit.
2. Do check the previous post and topic because proof that user is plagiarizing is already provided at "November 13, 2018, 10:42:51 PM"  at below post.
You copy-pasted this guide without providing the source to it.
https://medium.com/noahcoin/how-to-use-mercatox-exchange-full-guide-bb506a6910c6

I do not know how much Theymos will like, but I think we should remove Offtopic, Meta , Altcoin discussion board , Politics and society or any board not related to bitcoin  stop giving any activity. You will get activity only on BTC related boards when you ask or post something sensible.
We might take a small fee while registering in this forum as newbie fee and those who still not able to pay that fees, might we create a guest board where they can still ask their questions.

I think it is unreasonable to check users previous posts for plagiarism before giving a merit. That would be a lot of work.

If you give someone merit and they later get banned it's not a big deal because merits aren't scarce.
I would cruise their post history for obvious spam but that's about it.

What difference does it make? A good post is a good post even if its author has been banned or is a scammer or wears socks with sandals.

Post is considered good as per newbie standards not on the standard that somebody is knowing the forum too long and doing ban evasion.

From one side it is good and on the other hand there is an adverse effect, when checking someone's post in a case like this.
I am sure the more regulations in tightening, the more someone blames it and makes trouble.

Note: If you mark all posts of each member by admin and mod, as Spam or move one container manually to the Spam folder, it may have to require hundreds of mods every 50 mod members multiplied by all thousands of members of the Bitcointalk, 50% of spam categories will increase being 150% worse is the downside. and analyze it to help protect users from spam and abuse for this convenience from positive effects.
The point: for this depends on how we respond to good and bad.

Not all newbies are newbies, some are altaccounts of established members.
Some are Jr members who got deranked.
Some could as well be seasoned cryotocurrency enthusiasts who were late to this forum.
It's a very large bunch.

Newbies are not the only account which gets banned for  pliagarism. That is the largest rank and conversely they are also the largest number of banned accounts (including nuked).

I don't see how the bad eggs affects the rest of the crate.

I personally think banned accounts should be displayed on the profiles but I doubt that would be implemented,
I think it would be useful, though not sure if it would be implemented or what the admin's stance on it is.

Yeah the developpers of the new forum told me that it depends if Theymos accepts or not , so I would to hear what theymos think about this idea Smiley

~ Madness

It's safe to assume Theymos did not accept that.
But as Suchmoon pointed out, a good post is a good post.
Regardless the situation of the user who made it.

Your suggestion isn't bad but it's too complicated. I am agree with check post is plagiarized or not. But check ban user really not easy task for every post that we want to send merit. It will be more better if ban user mark by forum, so that easily we can identify before send merit.

A good post is a good post even if its author has been banned or is a scammer or wears socks with sandals.

Obviously, good post is good post. But sending merit banned user is useless. Simply you can send it another good post. But problem is we don't know who has banned. And we don't have much time to identify that. So I am not going to check this every time if I have no doubts. Especially once I use mobile.

But I always visit history once I send merit to newbie. If a user totally newbie and he haven't receive single merit yet then I have doubts about his post and I always visit his history before sending merit.

Scrutinizing users post history before handing out merits could help in reducing the actual large amounts of merits that gets wasted due to a merit to a potential banned/banned account..
But it's down to meriter, some sources/members actually do a bit of the scrutiny before handing one or two out, especially when dealing with an unpopular account on the forum, but you really cannot expect everyone to follow such strenuous routine simply to hand out merits, some users simply hand out merits based on the post on sight, and it's perfectly OK,if you sure do have time to do a bit of search into users post history,it could also be beneficial...

Now talking about the boards you're requesting to be ousted, thid forum is an open/user friendly forum, yeah the major reason is discussions about the bitcoin, but narrowing it down to simply that will make this place boring and inhabitantble..
We need meta to discuss issues pertaining to the forum, how to move the forum forward, and were users come to make appeal
Off-topic is simply for fun, discussing issues ranging from favorite food to musicians,it sure helps ease some tension up, if you can find willing replies
We sure have over 2000 Altcoins,we definitely need the Altcoin discussion.
I'll rather discuss some political issues in P&S than engage in some generic topics on the BD board

In my opinion a quality content is such irrespective of any other factor associated with it (except in the instance where it is discovered to be pliagarism).

The users post history or the users rank or account situation can not devalue the post, it can if course affect the user. However, the merit is awarded to the content. And not the creator.
And such bias about giving merits actually allows some established members who have gained acceptance in the forum get merits easily while new members find it harder.

If all profile information was closed for a while am sure we would have a perculiar situation, and members who are likely to get rewarded by virtue of their popularity might find it harder.

But of course members who grew the forum deserve the credits.

First, before anyone judge me of not snipping, I just want to let it here because I really agree to this one.  Many members always encourage to check the history of the person prior giving a single merit.  But just I always say, it is like getting the track record of someone and judging that someone through their past and not the present.  If that someone do something great today then you will not credit him/her or give something as a reward because he needs to do so much positive works in order to cancel all the negative works that he/she did before. (which is for me a hard parameter for the ones who want to change their behavior from spamming to making quality posts)

I think we are a bit too strict, theymos whats to have more open space for the newbies and as suchmoon said, good post can be written by anyone no matter trust, merit, rank, etc.
I'm trying to be a bit more open minded to the newbies. Well, some deserve to where they are now, but the forum is a bit like prison and everyone is criminal until proven wrong.
I was supporting this approach in the begging but I see now things are changing, the last merit rule filter a lot of crap from the here and now some good posters began to appear.

I think it is unreasonable to check users previous posts for plagiarism before giving a merit. That would be a lot of work.
IMO, it's not unreasonable at all and I do this myself--especially if the post I'm about to give merit to was written by a low-ranked account.  sMerits aren't exactly scarce, but I don't want to waste what I have on plagiarized posts.  I've been saved from giving merits to plagiarists simply because I took about 30 seconds to google-check the post I was about to give a merit to--and that's happened not once, but several times.

I do not know how much Theymos will like, but I think we should remove Offtopic, Meta , Altcoin discussion board , Politics and society or any board not related to bitcoin  stop giving any activity. <snip>
We might take a small fee while registering in this forum as newbie fee and those who still not able to pay that fees, might we create a guest board where they can still ask their questions.
I think those suggestions are a bit too extreme, and I highly doubt Theymos would go for them.  The real solution should come in the form of rules laid out for bounty managers and those who participate in them.  It's been discussed to death, but Theymos is slow with implementing forum changes and I think he wants to see how the merit system and the new changes he's made to it work before trying other things.  That's just my guess, however.
