Marketing your blockchain project

As I understand some major players in marketing like Facebook, Twitter (even google if im not wrong?) etc haven't really allowed any blockchain related campaigns go through since January. How are new projects surviving now and reaching out to people who could possibly interested in what they have to offer?

I guess one way is to advertise your project on this forum and then hold Airdrops but is there anything else that a newcomer can do when we leave out places such as cointraffic etc that will charge a lot of money.

Btw, not planning on starting a project myself, but as I have somewhat background in marketing it's just curious what has changed in marketing blockchain projects within the last year really, because it seems like a completely other area and there are so many restrictions.

I get the feeling that facebook and twitter are going under the bus. You could get an interesting personality to make videos for YouTube and Steemit, and promote links to the posts. Bitcoin Talk would also be a good place to inform the crypto community. Using the signature space of respected members would be a great help.

I'm not really a fan of airdrops. Iget the impression thast they are used when a coin is likely to fail, and the creators are unwilling to pay for conventional promotions. This may be because I don't like the way they are promoted in BT, so I tend to have a bit of a negative view.

One form of airdrop is the parallel chain with divergence ( sometimes called a fork ). This gives users of an established chain such as Bitcoin a number of free coins, and it encourages them to retain these and strengthen the new chain. This retention is likely to become more common following the Bitcoin Cash SV creation.

I come across ico adverts on both Facebook and twitter. So there is no definitive restriction on posting such there. But it's uardly advertisement and investors are unlikely to come in from those sites.
There are lots of other social platforms which are cryptocurrency friendly.
Reddit, LinkedIn, Steemit, YouTube, Minds, and so in.
And of course there's this forum which is the largest community of cryotocurrency enthusiasts.

One of the most effective advertisement is the word of mouth. And if investors can attest to the quality of your product you would have more investors.
A good product doesn't market itself, but it's easier to market a good product.

You are right about that. If you take a look at other platforms like NEO you would see that the majority of their projects dont do airdrop campaigns because there is no need for them to do so. They are confident enough in their projects and products without giving out free tokens. Another bad sign is if a ICO is offering big bonuses like 70-100% on purchases. This usually leads to huge sell offs because the investors get a lot of free tokens.

They post ad's in place that actually people care about "blockchain related projects"? For example buying ads on this forum or reddit bitcoin subredits or as someone said making videos on youtube.
If someone advertising very specific and technical project on most general social websites its most likely scam. Simple as that.

I think any cryptocurrency enthusiast on facebook or twitter etc, you hope to cut across with such adverts about a particular project ought to be on the largest cryptocurrency forum on the planet, there is only a1% chance that such individuals will be absent as a member on this forum

Which makes this forum the best possible place to advertise for a project or get to let people know what a project is all about or has to offer, such as advertising via signature space or making an announcement thread.
