In my case at 5c/kwh I get 1.33$ with the S9J vs 1.22$ with the 841.
Guys running those say they are quieter and are not getting that hot, more attractive to home mining.
But the 741 is totally outdated, it's returning 9 cents at the same power costs.

Also, no one "allowed" the fees to reach $55 per tx; the nature of miners is to include tx with higher fees on their block for profit, and it's not their fault if someone paid that much for a single transaction.
