By English English do you mean British English (Grin).

I think a lot of the growth in the price should probably be accredited to this forum and also theymos and sirius for keeping this and the reddit forums active for so long.

We’ve never had very much downtime here either even before switching to cloud flare.

Time flies!

I want to do something really special for 10 years. If you have ideas, PM me.

I definitely feel that the "old" (I've started lurking around mid to late 2011) Bitcointalk had a much better signal to noise ratio.

Definitely, but it's more to do with size than anything. That was the community's golden age because it was a pretty tight-knit community where people knew and cared about each other to some extent, and there was a shared vision. You lose that as communities grow. On a forum of this size, in order to return to the level of quality we had in 2011, you'd basically have to turn the forum into a police state. And even if you were OK with that in principle (which I'm not...), it'd push away many of the good contributors. Often it seems like a situation of "size, freedom, or quality: pick two".

There is room for improvement, though, and there are probably many ways of incrementally improving signal-to-noise without sacrificing much or any freedom.

Great day today for Bitcoin users. Thanks OP to remind everyone. I believe bitcointalk has been keeping a big role to spread the word about Bitcoin. It's not just a Bitcoin foeum, we can called it a great crypto academy. I can say about myself, I didn't aware much about crypto but I have been learning from here and obviously I have learned so many thing.

I believe if continue like this we can build a decent forum. And obviously thanks to Satoshi for give us life changing opportunity. And thanks to theymos for his hard work to manage this forum nicely.

There's nothing better to dissipate all doubts about the assorted scammers that claim to be satoshi than just read his posts here, they are just trying to mimick his posting style but fail at it.

Someday I have to find the time to read all the 575 posts he made in chronological order, im sure that will be interesting, I've just read a couple of pages and the most famous posts.

As far as this forum goes I've learned so much, I never imagined i would spend so much time on it. Let's go for 9 more years then, and shall we all be uber rich by then.

On a forum of this size, in order to return to the level of quality we had in 2011, you'd basically have to turn the forum into a police state. You wouldn't. I think if you removed signatures completely that would solve the issue instantly. All those who are causing the issue in the first place would just leave and to never return. Problem solved. This forum would probably go back to how it was in the good old days practically overnight. I think if you even just required a high amount of activity to get a signature that would solve a lot of the shitposting. I don't think having some minimum standards on how signature campaign managers can operate here would turn the forum into a police state either. Most campaigns would clean up their act when they realise there's some punishments for how they behave here. It's because they can get away with doing nothing that they do. If we stopped removing ref links then people would continue to spam them all day everyday but removing ref links doesn't = police state. There's rules here to try keep some order and not ruin the experience for everyone else. Signature campaigns have practically destroyed the forum and the vast majority of people don't think that's ok and simply telling campaigns to clean their act up or they can't advertise here should be common sense and not some form or tyranny.

There is room for improvement, though, and there are probably many ways of incrementally improving signal-to-noise without sacrificing much or any freedom.

I agree there's lots of things we can do but when can we try them? The longer we leave things the worse things get and more genuine users are pushed away and leave only to be replaced by dozens of spammers in their wake.

Oh dear.... we think it's bad now but it will surely get worse in the teenage years.

I hope that it will become better from now on forward with the merits and all... but isnt this what every parent is thinking?

The great thing about this post is that we will know when the 10th anniversary of bitcointalk will be. The 10th birthday of bitcoin itself was a bit of a disaster, but when it happens for bitcointalk next year we should pump it to the moon!
