Found curious about the merit stuff

I found that the topic of getting merit is always being discussed, I understand that providing quality posts are good, but what does it mean by quality post? Like sometimes I saw some posts maybe sharing some information of a particular topics but they are not being awarded.

Is there any skills or guideline?

   A quality post is not determine by how long the post is but how articulated and organised it is. making a quality post is not quite a mountainous task.

First thing to do is make sure your post is quite understandable and the idea behind it is something that will be helpful to members of the forum it might not always get agreed upon by every member because this is a big forum and members has different views but try as much to present your work in a manner in which even if someone does not agree with you will see you present your claim in a good manner.

Before dropping a post do well to read it again to make necessary correction, do not be in a haste to flood the forum with post probably because of your bounty commitment or to increase your post count. Make sure every post you drop is good in its own way.

   Have a good personal understanding of what topic you want to post about this would help you not to be guilty of plagiarism do a lot of research and study the truth is that you can't make Good post if you not knowledgeable.

If you have problem with good English you can enroll into an English class or stick to your local board your work would also be appreciated there. Again eliminate inferiority complex be bold and be open to correction

Quality is objective and people can share different views in which post is quality and deserves merits.
The standards has been dropped to now mean, posts which is helpful, and appear to have plenty of thought behind it.
How much effort you put into the post, the content and write-up could make all the difference.

Your post of course should be on your own perspective of quality, do not post what you think others want to read or solely for the purpose of getting merits.

- Provide help to others when needed
- Make relevant replies
- Make an effort to put out quality content and contributions.

There are no specific guidelines, what I suggest is to see which posts get merit when you go to the merit stats :

Don't over analyse what a "quality post" is. It's simply just a topic/reply that's decently original and does actually help people in one way or another, or at least contribute to the topic. That's pretty much it. No guidelines or anything. Skills though? Well, bitcointalk is a bitcoin forum, so of course you need to have decent knowledge in bitcoin or cryptocurrencies in general; which is something that most people here are mostly missing.

Yes, indeed there are some topics/replies that didn't receive any merit. But people are overexaggerating the number of topics/replies that aren't given merit. I guarantee you that if a topic/reply is good, there's like a 95% chance that it has at least one merit or if not, then chances are that not enough people has read the topic/reply.

There is some reasons (IMO) :

- Good quality posts are relative opinion. That's quality for you, not necessarily for others.
- You think the post deserves merit, and you don't even have 1 sMerit.
- This forum is so wide, have seen a number of posts since this forum was created until now? Maybe there have been similar posts before or people have read outside the forum with the same point.

Actually, the merit buzz seems to be smaller now for whatever cumulative of reasons. There are some reference tips posted on this thread (and all over if you search around), but above all it requires you to be willing to put time and effort into your posts regularly.

One-liners are generally not going to postulate to merit, and a poor overall posting history will normally play against you. Stating nonsense or making generic remarks are not aligned with being merited either. What is normally appreciated is seeing that you place some thought/research into you posts, making the stand-out from the general spam like prototype post. Having a decent command of the language is also a factor, since nobody want to go around having to decode posts and second-guessing the author’s intention.

You shouldn’t be in a rush either to get merit, but if after a month or two of regular posting you still have not being merited, then you should revise you posts and try to figure out what is going on.

In my opinion, getting a few merits should be fairly easy to achieve. It's more down to common sense than anything. Another matter is getting enough to rank-up to the mid-to-high ranks, but that is something to tackle further ahead if at all.

Old forum users still talking about this, I thought how to get merits, quality post aren't getting merits, how does merit work etc are now old news for old forum users. The only guideline to getting merited is to contribute positively to the forum and by looking at your history you haven't been doing that. You registered since may and haven't been active that much so when did you see the quality post that's not been merited? Can you please give an example so I can look into the post.

You're right,this happens most times or the other,but when consistency comes into play,then it isn't going to happen for too long..
No forum member eats,sleeps,stays on the forum 247,so most times ones post could go unnoticed either from merit sources or members loaded with smerits to give out,thus such posts gets buried without getting due rewards..

But when you make such posts consistently on the forum for weeks then there is no chance such user wouldn't be merited,so it's basically not a hit and run affair,except for the spammers looking for one golden merit...
If you're a good member you'll keep contributing your own quota to the forum and in the long run you'll get merited,and it wouldn't stop there as you'll keep getting merited as long as you're being of good help..
