Hello, exactly like in topic. I've lost a lot of bitcoins and looking for help. I was trying to solve it in past, couldn't.. Right now I want to come back to topic and make it happen somehow. Do anyone know how to solve this problem? Reward is 100BTC and this thread is completely serious. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BOxflDzhgU&t=3sShare with friends to make this topic loud.. You could help rescue massive amounts of bitcoins. ==== PC is completely frozen. Nobody touch it and we have made image of all hard drive so it's safe. Our idea is to look for private keys through hex and we checked all PC length and breadth. There were found some bitcoins, but not that... I think private key to this wallet could be partially broken, but I'm not sure..

bak file doesnt exist already. Only hex left. All other bak files are only "recovered", but seems it's not the same.

Now what you have the data backed up, start up Bitcoin Core with the -salvagewallet option. It will brutally go through the corrupted file and recover anything looking like a key.

After deleting the old wallet.dat and put the new one, I think you need to run from the the command prompt the rescan option.

I think I know who can help in this situation, @LoyceV had a thread how to recover bitcoins from old wallets, I guess he can give a hand here. Of course your case is a bit more complicated. What type of HDD you have. Maybe something else failed in the system and not the HDD. Did you check the SMART status of the drive?
Hope you find a solution from the situation.

I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to accomplish. From your Reddit link, I read: Wallet was created and deleted in a time frame of 1 minute That doesn't sound like the wallet has been in use, and in your Youtube video I see several other (much bigger) wallets (walletdddd.dat for instance). Can you be more thorough in your explanation? Don't rush it, take your time, but try to be as complete as possible.

That is nuts. I can't imagine how many bitcoins is in the wallet if your offering a reward of 100btc. Why didn't you use a hardware wallet or atleast print the private keys or something so you could backup if your HD ever crashed. This doesn't make much sense to me. Unless you are trying to crack somebodies else's wallet.

So, if I understand correctly from the YouTube video and your comments on Reddit... the entire situation came about because: - Bitcoin Core was open and running with your "$$$" wallet.dat loaded - You renamed the "$$$" wallet.dat file to otherwalletname.dat - You shutdown Bitcoin Core - You then tried to rename otherwalletname.dat to wallet.dat - You tried to start Bitcoin Core - You got error message... and wallet.dat was "gone" and you had a "wallet.TIMESTAMP.bak" file - You renamed wallet.TIMESTAMP.bak back to wallet.dat - You tried to restart Bitcoin Core - It then deleted wallet.dat and started up as normal - After startup it then generated a completely new wallet.dat Looking at the version of Bitcoin Core, it is generating NON-HD wallets... so it is relatively old version. Finally, all of this happened 2 years ago... and you have made images of the hdd and tried various file recovery programs to recover the wallet.dat
Regardless... Unfortunately, it would appear that your chances of recovery are very very small... given old historical threads/post like these: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1389123.msg14114115#msg14114115https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1389123.msg14114782#msg14114782Where a user in EXACTLY the same situation has suffered complete wallet loss after renaming a wallet.dat... then renaming the wallet.TIMESTAMP.bak file... It would seem that the underlying Berkeley DB libraries did "Bad Things"™ with corrupted files. Whether or not this still occurs in newer versions of Bitcoin Core, I can not confirm.

I’m one of the developer of xdag coin and i did a lot escrows services for that coin (at least one shot worth 50k$, but a lot of 20k$ each). So i think that i’m reliable, if interested you can send me a PM and i’ll show you more references, if you need. Cheers Marco.

If you are reliable, then please repeat same what we did on youtube (on same bitcoin core version), put there 0.01btc and get it back. With results please share me directly. I think it's about everyone who are looking for reward.

Be careful with newbies with 0 trust saying they are reliable. I am not saying that this guy isn't, but don't trust your files or download anything from random new created accounts here. Just to be safe

So you haven’t the bak file anymore if i understood right. Which version of MacOS is it ? Did you already tried some feature of MacOS like time machine backup or this http://osxdaily.com/2015/06/16/revert-to-prior-version-file-mac-os-x/ ?

I posted the standard recovery procedure for the kind of corruption described here. It seems to be being ignored.
I would take a substantial bet that the OP here is either scamming or is going to get scammed.
As an aside, it is not safe to use potentially malicious wallet.dat files. Anyone who gets sent a wallet.dat from a third party should take great care in using it. I would not be shocked if it were possible to get arbitrary code execution from a wallet.dat file. If a bad guy found a way to do that the best way to exploit that discovery would be to pose as someone who corrupted their wallet and encourages people to try to 'scam' them by getting a copy of their wallet or help them with a promise of an outsized reward.
