I live up in Alaska and there isn't much going on here bitcoin wise. No businesses other than mine accept it, mining is hard at $0.24 a KWH. I would like to have a meet up maybe at a local coffee shop or something. Having never been to one, what would a good template be for the meeting?

I was thinking something like giving away paper wallets with $1 or $2 on them and maybe a door prize of a $25 paper wallet. Of course teaching people how to put a wallet on their phone, the importance of writing down their private keys and demonstrate a Bitcoin transaction.

Any ideas of how to run one from personal experience?

THANKS! BTC Cool

I don't have any experience of running a meet up but you seem to have an idea.

I think you should join online communities in your local and conduct a survey on how many of them are interested of attending the meet up. Here in the forum we do have Meetup section --> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=86.0

Could you convince a local store to accept Bitcoin, and let you use a room to promote Bitcoin locally?

It would be good business for him, especially if you used it as a meeting place for local Bitcoin exchanges.

I started a meetup in one of our local bars and I convinced the owner to accept bitcoin as a payment option for the drinks. Most people bought tokens at the door, which they use to pay for drink and snacks, because the transaction confirmation takes too long on individual purchases or they were offered the option to pay in advance and then to get a refund at the end of the meetup, if they did not use their whole drink budget.  Grin

Giving a live demonstration on Bitcoin transactions and some free drinks, goes a long way to get people to start buying bitcoins themselves.

The meetup has become a weekly thing now, and the owner even installed a Bitcoin ATM now. This is drawing bitcoiners to his bar and he sells more food and drinks than before.  Grin

There is a Meetup Section but for a project like this you would want to concentrate on your locality, especially when your region is not that represented here in the forum.

You could organize a seminar, educating people on Bitcoin and it's utilities. Give them tools to use to improve themselves, this forum link for one. And just the general overview.
Then for those who show the most interest you could organize a regular meet up, and find ways to implement Bitcoin into your region.

I was able to find a coffee shop that is open late until 11pm Monday to Saturday that is interested. I will help him out with how to accept payment in bitcoin for the evening, I like the coffee token idea from Kakmakr, that would speed up purchases during the night.

Any other ideas?

I am the first person in my residential area who is willing to accept bitcoin payments. Unfortunately, so far, no one has used Bitcoin when making payments.
I used to try to convince the other party to pay me with bitcoin when I sold my second-hand computer, because the other party also holds bitcoin. At that time, we said that the good price was 0.07 bitcoin, and the bitcoin price at that time was $6,200, but in On the day before the payment, the price of Bitcoin rose to $6,400, so the other party finally thought it would be uneconomical to insist on paying for Bitcoin. Finally, he paid me the legal currency.

It'll depend on how popular the bitcoin is over there, and how many willing individuals youll be able to bring together..
But the major step is to make a move,as definitely this will help boost the bitcoins popularity over there, and it could also start up what could be a click of future bitcoiners.
Getting the merchant(owner of the shop) to accept the bitcoin,is already a huge progress and with subsequent meet ups you'll have created enormous awareness..
Good idea mate
