This is a perfect example of block chain getting used in environment friendly places .

I have had read about it but never seen an example , this will actually help people to switch over to non-conservative methods of payment , as opposed to cash and all people can actually go forward and start paying in cryptocurrencies and cards , it would for sure save millions of trees if that happened .

This is a great initiative .

Paying cash would have indirectly meant Killing more trees indirectly therefore they chosed to pay in ether also money in money in any form , no one would deny that.

Wow it's was a great news for all of us especially we Filipinos because we're not just promoting the cleanliness of the ocean but also promoting cryptocurrency. With that, I think people would be aware with what is cryptos and how it works in the life of people who are involved with this kind of investment. Promoting crypto while helping our ocean is such a great project. I really live it.

Philippines is one among the country in Asia with large level of acceptance of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies on different needs. Though it is a small country, it highly gives support for development. I expect more countries to give good support in a perfect way. Lots of scams have happened within Philippines in the name of cryptocurrency, a perfectly planned implementation will get things happening with perfection.

Think about it this one has everything we all love. It is using a crypto do the job, it is helping the poor find a way to earn money and it is cleaning the world from pollution. It has all the good things about a community work that is dream of not only one group but three groups both crypto lovers, socialists that wants government work for unemployed and environmentalist that love cleaning pollution.

All because Manila decided to use crypto for good instead of just banning it or taxing it like so many other nations. Governments could tax crypto income and get paid in crypto as well and use that crypto for betterment of our nations. If I make 100 bucks profit from cyrpto I can pay 20 bucks in tax (or whatever the tax rate is) in crypto and that crypto will be paid for unemployed people to do something good. PERFECT world.

Well, this is a good way to promote cryptocurrency to people and to teach them how to use it and also to help the world save from plastics pollution. But i wonder how would these people learn how to use the ether wallet and receive their incentives since it didn't mention on the news.

Quote
People will be paid in Ether for helping to clean up one of the most polluted beaches as part of a new movement to clean up plastic waste.

Bounties for the Oceans
The Bounties Network is teaming up with ConsenSys Social Impact to tackle the issue of plastic waste in our oceans.

Back in June, the Network undertook its first bounty-based social impact project with MakerDAO as part of World Oceans Day. However, since then, the team have been looking to see how they can make a bigger impact.

As part of their first pilot, they will be targeting Manila Bay in the Philippines. According to Greenpeace, the Philippines is the third biggest source of plastic ocean pollution in the world, making it an ideal place for the Bounties Network to start.

Taking place over two days from the 1st and 2nd of December, from 0800 until 1700 on both days, participants will be cleaning up the Las Piñas–Parañaque Critical Habitat Area. They will be paid up to 550 Philippine pesos ($10.50) per day, which will be made in Ether.

Taking to Twitter, Joseph Lubin, founder of ConsenSys and co-founder of Ethereum, announced the project.

On its website, the Network said:

Quote
With our oceans in crisis, the devastating ecological consequences of our actions are becoming abundantly clear, and global solutions are needed. We believe blockchain-based bounties have the potential to incentivize global participation in social impact projects and donation crowdsourcing.

The hope is that this will create a “decentralized social impact contribution network with the ability to extend across the globe.” By doing so, it will “incentivize and activate millions of hours of human capital” that will “collaborate for positive social and environmental outcomes.”

According to the UN, 80 percent of all pollution in our oceans comes from people. Additionally, eight million tons of plastic per year end up in our oceans, impacting wildlife, jobs, and tourism. With plastic causing billions of dollars worth of damage each year, steps need to be taken to tackle the issue.

With Bounties for the Ocean, it’s hoping to achieve just this.

In order to receive Ether for the cleanup, a photo of the participant and the rubbish they’ve collected must be taken at the Las Piñas–Parañaque Critical Habitat Area. This should then be uploaded with one of the Bounties anchor volunteers. If possible, the image should be shared on social media tagging @ethBounties and using #bountiesfortheoceans.

Each correct submission will be rewarded 0.03 ETH on acceptance.

....

Perhaps good news for a change.

This could be a good idea both for practical purposes such as cleaning up pollution as well as marketing and promotional purposes in terms of spreading positive examples of crypto utilization as a means of furthering societal good.

Not certain how cost effective it is or how well their payment scaling stacks up against cost of living in the philippines.

But it is nice to see someone making an effort.   Smiley
Indeed, it is a good news for Manilenyo to be paid ethereum while cleaning up their place. Some of Filipinos are not initiative when it comes in cleaning. They do not clean without compensation. So, it is good to have payment using cryptocurrency. They clean the community, they also promote the cryptocurrency.

I missed this news, never gets on my radar that some organization intends to pay people in ETH for cleaning manila's polluted Area.  I do not know if this project has a relation to the current cleaning of Manila Bay since there is little to no news about a cryptocurrency organization being involved.  Or probably the plan does not commence and there is a huge flaw on the system because those who will work for the cleaning up will not accept ETH as payment unless organizer will convert it to Php.  Even though Philippines is cryptocurrency friendly, many of its citizen does not know about cryptocurrency.

They do not clean without compensation.

Hmm, if you are aware of the Manila Bay clean up, lots of volunteer flocks in to do a volunteer cleaning.  They are not compensated for this and yet they present themselves to help in the cleaning drive of the ocean.

I haven't heard updates on this. Maybe because I am not there  Smiley.

Not a single news in our local media about this, if I am not mistaken.

I wonder how many people  participated in this since it is talking about crypto as a reward and since not everyone knows about crypto I doubt someone who doesn't understand will join. What could be the reason why they chose Ether and not cash, if paying in cash will bring more volunteer then I don’t see any advantage why they chose to pay ethereum.

I agree, it is not appealing since majority of people who do this kind of work is  ignorant about cryptocurrency that is why this kind of sytem is unattracted for them.  And they do this kind of stunt just for their company promotion, that is what I believe at least.

I hope it gives a positive outcome for everybody, crypto and in the real world. Also if it succeeds , put a bounty as much as possible for all the bays in the Philippines, I am a citizen and my house is beside the ocean. That way I can help clean and get paid.

A very good proposal and solution to existing problems of cleaning the environment. This approach is at ease to make people love and respect nature. To be honest, I would even without money engaged in such activities, but to promote cryptocurrency is just a forced measure. This action is a kind of airdrop ethereum

You can find video here: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uViGfYZvrQg).

Just noticed that one wear's a coins.ph T-shirt. We all know that they are the number exchanges in the Philippines so I'm not surprised by the sponsorship. Next up is "Plant a tree in your local community" program. Here is also a good article about this bounty: (https://breakermag.com/thanks-to-crypto-incentives-3-tons-of-trash-were-removed-from-manila-bay/). Manila Bay has a rich history, so it's about time that the Philippine government should take into consideration, restoring this old but beautiful natural harbor.

Only 1K + views, this doesn't seem attractive to Filipinos. Bounty for Basura, that time, I guess having bounty here is more profitable.
But actually I admire the dedication of the team especially the coins.ph as they can think of this, although we know it's also one way of advertisement of their exchange.

I think is good that they will get paid in crypto if they clean up the area, but i with on future to not have trash throw away and maybe only on this way we will have clean area and also companies who extract oil to not throw residues on water.

It will be better if the government will sponsor this one, as they have the budget and they can enforce  the people to work for this.
The effort of the private sector is good but we know they want something in return that's why they advertise.

Honestly speaking, Ethereum is not that popular in the Philippines yet. Instead, Bitcoin is the one who is well known to this country.
Even Eth was listed at coins.ph still majority are converting their coins into bitcoin not on ETH. But the author of this topic has a good intentions
about its topic.

The popular coin in the Philippines is the bitcoin and the second is the ethereum. But that is their choice to use ethereumto pay the people who cleaning their polluted area. Manila is one of the polluted city in the Philippines that needs clean up drive and even the water have pollution. I hope more advocacy like this and they use also bitcoin. Using crypto as payment for them help to promote crypto from the Filipino and to have more investors.
