People will be paid in Ether for helping to clean up one of the most polluted beaches as part of a new movement to clean up plastic waste. Bounties for the Oceans The Bounties Network is teaming up with ConsenSys Social Impact to tackle the issue of plastic waste in our oceans.Back in June, the Network undertook its first bounty-based social impact project with MakerDAO as part of World Oceans Day. However, since then, the team have been looking to see how they can make a bigger impact. As part of their first pilot, they will be targeting Manila Bay in the Philippines. According to Greenpeace, the Philippines is the third biggest source of plastic ocean pollution in the world, making it an ideal place for the Bounties Network to start. Taking place over two days from the 1st and 2nd of December, from 0800 until 1700 on both days, participants will be cleaning up the Las Piñas–Parañaque Critical Habitat Area. They will be paid up to 550 Philippine pesos ($10.50) per day, which will be made in Ether.Taking to Twitter, Joseph Lubin, founder of ConsenSys and co-founder of Ethereum, announced the project. On its website, the Network said: With our oceans in crisis, the devastating ecological consequences of our actions are becoming abundantly clear, and global solutions are needed. We believe blockchain-based bounties have the potential to incentivize global participation in social impact projects and donation crowdsourcing. The hope is that this will create a “decentralized social impact contribution network with the ability to extend across the globe.” By doing so, it will “incentivize and activate millions of hours of human capital” that will “collaborate for positive social and environmental outcomes.” According to the UN, 80 percent of all pollution in our oceans comes from people. Additionally, eight million tons of plastic per year end up in our oceans, impacting wildlife, jobs, and tourism. With plastic causing billions of dollars worth of damage each year, steps need to be taken to tackle the issue. With Bounties for the Ocean, it’s hoping to achieve just this. In order to receive Ether for the cleanup, a photo of the participant and the rubbish they’ve collected must be taken at the Las Piñas–Parañaque Critical Habitat Area. This should then be uploaded with one of the Bounties anchor volunteers. If possible, the image should be shared on social media tagging @ethBounties and using #bountiesfortheoceans.
Each correct submission will be rewarded 0.03 ETH on acceptance.https://www.livebitcoinnews.com/manila-residents-to-be-paid-in-ether-for-cleaning-up-polluted-habitat-area/.... Perhaps good news for a change. This could be a good idea both for practical purposes such as cleaning up pollution as well as marketing and promotional purposes in terms of spreading positive examples of crypto utilization as a means of furthering societal good. Not certain how cost effective it is or how well their payment scaling stacks up against cost of living in the philippines. But it is nice to see someone making an effort.

I don't think that most of the people in the Philipines know what ethereum isand I'm sure that they don't have ethereum wallets. The project devs are going to pay them with a cryptocurrency that is going to crash and decrease it's price, which isn't fair.Projects that are oriented towards cleaning the environment are always good, but this project won't lead to further crypto adoption.

For no other reason than popularising crypto, it worth commending no matter how little considering the amount of bashing that the price of crypto have witnessed in the past couple of weeks which means every effort should be appreciated no matter how little its going to contribute to the mainstream as that is what is needed at this time. Another worthy of note is for the cause of which this is being utilised which would generally be accepted to be a good cause on cleaning the environment.

It is a good advocacy for the awareness of both things, the collaboration of both world the environmental and crypto awareness that delivers to the young generation of how important this things for the future. A greener future for the environment and a paperless transactions for crypto. Although it may seems not totally adopted as of this moment but at least its slowly introducing to the public.

Mix emotion and for sure the workers will be paid a lot of Ethereum as the ETH market continue to falling down. Maybe the workers were all choosen as educated persons so that they can be easily to learn of how crypto currency will work. Promoting their crypto currency project and making the environment clean is a good idea in which each parties will trully benefits.

Each correct submission will be rewarded 0.03 ETH on acceptance. It's a shame that this is no longer worth the 500+ pesos that it was originally going to be. Still for many people in Manila being able to earn even 200 pesos for doing this is a good days work. It just won't bring as much attention as it otherwise would have. It's a great way for engaging a community and introducing people to the benefits of cryptocurrencies at the same time.

This is a good way to introduce and promote cryptocurrency while doing a community work like cleaning the ocean. I hope there will be more social projects in the future that will use virtual coins as payment. This method will spread awareness not only on cleaning an environment but also on speeding up the adoption of cryptocurrency.

Payout have lessen due to market price decline but it doesn't change up the amount of ETH that you can potentially earn. For now you would really receive less but its much better than nothing at all. 500 Pesos is equivalent on 1 day work if we do base on minimum rate which isn't really bad at all. This movement can really spread out cryptos existence and its usage knowing that PH is really positive when it comes to crypto.

Paying with cryptos in good initiative but at the end they are going to transfer them into fiat for living their life since in my knowledge most of the places in Phillipines don't accept crypto payment so it just make extra work and extra cost for those workers.I would like to hear some well renowned company is paying their all employers in cryptos will make huge difference.

I READ this news and it is good for the crypto community. But i am still thinking about something. are those workers they hired know cryptocurrency or ETHEREUM? Do they know how to change it to FIAT? if they dont have any knowledge on this then it will be another corruption!
HOW? someone will just get it in lower price!

Great bounty idea for cleaning up pollution. The Philippines is a very corrupt country and it is important that this project does not become one of the ways to break the dirty money.

I like the title of the job Bounty, this is a great milestones to the cryptocurrency network as this will allowed further adoption and utilization of cryptocurrency as a means of payment. Ethereum being use to pay worker's for cleaning plastic waste is a mind blowing news and I hope other sectors of the society will also adopt cryptocurrency as a mode of payment of salaries.

Knowing so well the in and outs of funds here in the Philippines, I can say that this will just be thrown into the pockets of whoever is in charge of the drive that they assigned. It's a shame that I already know what will happen, and this might make the cleaners clueless knowing that the average Filipino worker don't know much about cryptocurrencies, and only see them as HYIP (bitconnect lul).
This is certainly welcome but will be so hard for them to encash or use as money. Only luxury shops and restaurants do accept them as payment and given that this would only be a couple dollars at most, they wouldn't be able to utilize it and end up being ripped off by exchangers/tellers.

One important thing...it's a two days pilot event !! Taking place over two days from the 1st and 2nd of December, from 0800 until 1700 on both days, participants will be cleaning up the Las Piñas–Parañaque Critical Habitat Area. They will be paid up to 550 Philippine pesos ($10.50) per day, which will be made in Ether. So no chance of making a living out of it, and it's pretty damn obvious, you can't go around and pay that much and if you have that much money laying around you could simply utilize the money to tackle pollution on an industrial scale. But pretty interesting project and the lack of ICO in it is quite refreshing. LE: 100 submissions..hmm I would have expected a bit more and so probably have they too, since they still have funds to go for a few more days https://explorer.bounties.network/bounty/1511Hmm Knowing so well the in and outs of funds here in the Philippines, I can say that this will just be thrown into the pockets of whoever is in charge of the drive that they assigned.
Isn't this run by Filipinos in Manilla? They could monitor this a bit, don't they? But actually, that contact email on the page is weird simona.pop@consensys.net ..that's 100% a European name.

Cryptocurrencies are known to be popular in that region, so I don't think using them will be a big issue. And this is a place with very low salaries, so I guess if crypto payments will be fair, this could actually change lives of many people as well as help solving environmental issues. As for the crypto prices - ethereum is very cheap now, so many poeple could profit from that by saving some money in eth. Apart from that, I don't think it would be a problem to exchange this crypto for the local currency on regular basis. It's also a positive thing for crypto reputation, so I think it's a win-win situation in many aspects.

Not only that, but even if ETH doesn't crash and become worthless, there's absolutely nowhere to spend it. I think this is absolutely moronic to pay people for a job like this in cryptocurrency--even if it was bitcoin. Crowdfunding could just as easily have been done with cash, and I have no doubt the local Filipinos would rather get paid in their local currency than in ETH. This is a job that's important enough to do right, and I don't think that paying people in ETH is any advantage to anyone. Sorry to be a negative Nelly, but if you're working all day for fucking $10.50, at least you should be getting paid in fiat.

Yes, it's much better than nothing for people who currently have no work or who would've wanted to participate for free. But the opportunity to have earned 500 pesos in a day would've been enticing for a lot of people given that many earn much less than that.

As I said, $10.50 (roughly 500 pesos) is actually a very good days pay for a lot of Filipino's. It may not seem a lot to those of us who are westerners but it goes a lot further there and there are a lot less job opportunities.

It is very cool. Crypto utilization for cleaning marine waste. Maybe that is only done in the Philippines because crypto use and funding are legal. Maybe it can't be done like that in a country that doesn't legalize crypto
