Hello fellow miners.
I wonder if someone can point me in the right direction coz I have white hair from the past 2 weeks trying to figure this out, so now I decided to cry for help.
I have 5 of these gpus but unfortunately I can't hash more than 580 khs.
I have literately tried every single guide available for these cards and none of them help my case.
I believe the problem is when I add -g 2, because the comp always goes off when I do that, if I remove the -g 2 it works at 580 khs but that's as far as it goes.
This is my bat. currently:
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100 setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1 --intensity 13 -w 256 -g 1 --lookup-gap 2 --thread-concurrency 8192 --temp-target 70 --auto-fan --gpu-engine 1090 --gpu-memclock 1500
I have also tried intensity at 20,19,18, and comp always shuts down when I do that.
I am using the latest sgminer with the latest catalyst drivers, also tried, bf and cgminer same results. My system is windows 7 ultimate.

You need to find your sweet spot of core to memory ratio - it won't be the default speed, and it'll be different for every card. I just used CCC to overclock. You also want to be running at intensity 13. Temp target is too high - the 280X throttles around 70C. These are based on a 7950, but they are not the same! I've mine set to 65C temp target.
I had serious issues getting my R9 280X working, I was only getting about 580kH with mine. In a last ditch attempt downloaded GUIMiner-scrypt, set it up so it produced a batch file, which I use to run cgminer 3.7.2 - I now get 710-715kH. It's default settings for the 280X work well, and once I tweaked the sweet spot, it worked a treat.

What about -g 2 with a lower clockrate? Also try 1350 MHz memory and report your results.

I will try that GUIMiner-scrypt, always heard bad reviews about it so never looked into it but if it works it's all I care.

I have now tried that, first time in -g 2 that did not shut down the pc, so think I have to work my way up from 1350 coz khs now is only 506. I went with this set up this time --intensity 13 -w 256 -g 2 --lookup-gap 2 --thread-concurrency 8192 --temp-target 65 --auto-fan --gpu-engine 1030 --gpu-memclock 1350

Here are my settings for my powercolor R9 280x. I have also set the voltage set at 1.1v Was getting 715+Kh/s prior to setting voltage lower but temps were always running high. Lowered the voltage to 1.1v and now fans run about 40% at 70c and get 710Kh/s and a lot less power at the wall. I also have these cards, have finally got them running stable @ 1.1v ~720Kh/s Using almost the same settings as in your post, however I found that these cards don't like anything over 1050 GPU engine My settings: --intensity 13 -w 256 -g 2 --lookup-gap 2 --thread-concurrency 8192 --temp-target 78 --auto-fan --gpu-engine 1050 --gpu-memclock 1500

Thanks

Is your PSU strong enough for sure? Normally only the driver should crash if a setting is wrong/overclock too high/voltage too low.
BTW: My 280x hashes happily up to 95°C (forgot to set fan speed once), no throttling.

I have 1000w powering 2 cards, and another 1000W powering 3 cards, Its a 80plus from novatech they are very good quality power supplies, but to be fair I have wondered a few times already if in fact that is the problem, but rather not believe it coz just bought these psus 2 weeks ago.

OK these settings got me to 700khs, first time I ever seen that without shutting down thew pc, only problem is it only mines o one card the other one is there doing nothing at 25khs, why aren't both cards hashing away?
--intensity 13 -w 256 -g 2 --lookup-gap 2 --thread-concurrency 20800 --temp-target 70 --auto-fan --gpu-engine 1005 --gpu-memclock 1500

did you undervolt down to 1.1v. I wasn't able to get to "thread-concurrency" : "20800", until then. Hashrate didn't change much between 11200 and 20800.
Try backing down the "thread-concurrency" by multiples of 64 and see if that helps
Glad you could get to 700khs. i was fighting it for a while too.

K, I checked my settings and am getting 740 kh/s with these. I'm using sgminer 4.1.0 and I have the powercolor 280x 3GBD5-T2DHE/OC model. I've undervolted them to 1.1 v.
--intensity 13 -w 256 -g 2 --thread-concurrency 8192 --auto-fan --temp-target 65 -w 256 --gpu-engine 1045 --gpu-memclock 1500 --gpu-powertune 0 -k zuikkis
Couple of questions for you: - what drivers are you using? - are you deleting the .bin files? - powered risers? - when I had cards that came up with something like 25 kh/s, I found it best to go into computer management and delete the card, reboot and let it load the driver again and reboot. That typically solved that issue.
good luck...
