I joined this forum sometime in October 2017. From that time, I was very active in the cryptocurrency world and bitcointalk forum. I had the same tempo up until June 2018. By July my vibes began to go down and by September my vibes was completely gone. So tell me, what happened?

I made some money through bounties and ICOs. I decided that I will leave whatever i made in my wallet for it to grow. Sometimes I sold when I needed cash. I exchanged some coins into ethereum, bitcoin and other good cryptocurrencies. It was going fine until the price began to drop. It will drop for some days then increase a little. It continued like this for a while. When it was dropping, I got scared because I didn't want to loose money. When it will go up, I will be happy. During my daily activities, my subconscious would be thinking about my cryptocurrency. Prices continued to dropped until it got to a point when I didn't care anymore. Whether it drops or rise, I don't care.

Another thing that drew me further away from cryptocurrency was that I got a steady source of income which required a lot of my time. Then I had to go to school also.

Now, I check coinmarketcap only when I want to exchange some coins I have in my wallet for cash. I check to see if the market is green or red just so that I can get a better deal when exchanging. Right now, I don't care. Maybe if the market becomes more stable, I will begin to focus on it again.

What you describe happens to a lot of us forum members I think. The hype from 2017 is completly gone, doing bounties or participating in ICOs is kind of worthless by now. But I am sure as soon as the market becomes bullish again all the enthusiasm is back.

Agreed on you to that matters dude. This is something that we are being tested of how long we survive on this crisis, and measuring our beliefs in the altcoins or bitcoin that we are holding it in a long term. For sure until now more bullish are now stayed quiet and waiting it patiently for the  bull run season just like what happened in 2017.

This market price drop is great. It shakes out the exploiters and the misbelievers. Bitcoin will go through another cyclic rise again, and it will probably run far further than in the past. Then we will probably have another 80% drop and shake out, and this will be another great chance for some of us to build real wealth.

I think it does not drew you further away,  maybe the only reason you decide is to chill out and make money from other option.  The good thing is you are not stagnant.  Bounties and ICO are good enough for short term but can give you a good amount of money if succesful.

It is time when many people go away from cryptocurrency. I interested in it at the beginning of the year, gave much time to bounty and now have near 30$ in my wallet, so I become indifferent to cryptocurrency too.

Bitcoin grows like patches of bamboo. Most of it is underground, it spreads and spreads. Then one day, the shoots go up, incredibly fast. Each time bitcoin has had a bull run, in the past, that was preceded by a long period of this what I am calling "underground growth."

There is no question but the current period is seeing huge underground growth.

That next bull run....

The majority of the world population hasn't got to know of btc instead, or doesn't understand the basis of tech which powers the blockchain and cryptocurrency technology. We do agree the fact, that it is difficult for a non tech person to understand and use btc in real world, but btc would rise up as similar to the internet craze. Back in 90s and 2000, most of the world population were unaware of the internet and many of the investors (Inc Buffet) lost the opportunity to invest in internet based startups such as Amazon, Google etc. When more regulations come in and btc becomes a global currency, uneducated and non tech people who yell at btc as a SCAM will realize they have lost the chance.

We have been commonly seeing through market and price drops/rises right back from 2011 and the year after block halving. If we check through the decade long graph of the market, you might figure out there has been a meteoric rise in prices all over the market the year after block halving. Such situation has occurred now and bears continue to dominate until 2019.

One that I noticed is that sig campaigns are now very rare but other than that I guess everything is the same.
Another thing that drew me further away from cryptocurrency was that I got a steady source of income which required a lot of my time. Then I had to go to school also.
I also became inactive here a while ago for about 2-3 months I think due to hectic schedule in school, Lots of case studies here and there plus I need to focus on my thesis. But since season of holidays finally come then I already have time for crypto once again (I just feel sad because of the slow recovery of the market).

Generally agree with that. The bear market periods coincide with the best tech development. In big bull markets ppl are blinded and their attention is diverted by the floods of money washing around. It takes considerable time to drain that out.

The only caveat I would add, is that there is a small chance of failure caused by various factors. It is not a 100% guarantee that BTC (or any cryptocurrency) will grow indefinitely, or be universally adopted.

Hedging bets is wise.

Thinking about $10,000 BTC might be a thing of the past, seeing that there are people still holding them. A true moment of bloodbath.

That's not something I'd recommend. In times like this, you need to focus more on "BUIDLing" instead of just "HODLing". Building in this bearish trend is way easier than building in a bullish trend. Imagine you're not averaging down even a little bit after buying bitcoin at ~$20,000. In this case, you'll have to wait for bitcoin to reach all the way till ~$20,000 to only break-even. Compare this with someone who's currently building at the current low prices, it'll be a lot easier for the break-even (and profit) in this case!

Well most of the people I know that are earning in bounties have quit,
I wouldn't blame them most of the bounties this past few months are worthless,
You would work on promoting them and they would turn out to be a scam or wouldn't be listed on trading sites.

Bounties have never appealed to me. I thin there are better uses fr your time, and your signature - nt that I'm making the most of mine

I'm having trouble with trying to be both a HODLer, and a trader, and that is why I started a thread about it.  I'm starting to come to terms with it now, and also looking at picking up payments as a content producer. We must be kicking around the bottom of the Bitcoin price now, so I'm very cautious about selling until the trend becomes more obvious.

Yeah.. Even there are less bounties and ICOs these days. And to find a relevant signature is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. But who knows, what will come next Smiley

I personally know someone who:

>participated in (BTC) signature campaigns right here at Bitcointalk forums during 2014-17.
>invested all of the rewards of the signature campaigns into some very low-cap coin in 2017.
>made almost a million in December 2017 bull run from that coin and *completely* cashed out.

He played quite a gamble, and now he's enjoying his life.

Conclusion: signature campaigns might make you rich in the future if you have some good luck; they're not so bad!

I joined this forum during the crash of last year, at first I was hoping to get some tokens worth holding on to but then my interest changed cause there's more to learn here about crypto currency and I think this is the only forum you can just sit back and watch people discuss about a lot of things other than crypto

I've started to experiment with a bit of basic trading, and I'm making some small profits. It's a fascinating mix of statistical analysis, historical research, news awareness, psychology and patience. I think it is great training for the future. One is going to need those skills to survive during the future economic and political changes.

Thank goodness for the creation of Bitcoin. It gives us the chance of self-sufficiency and self-determination.
