A large number of businesses and other major institutions operating in the U.S and Canada received threatening emails on the afternoon of December 13, 2018, initiating sweeps and evacuations of several buildings.

It’s still ambiguous whether the threats that were received in Seattle, San Francisco, Washington DC, New York and Miami plus other places countrywide – are connected. These email threats also reached Toronto, Vancouver, Canada and Ottawa.

The name is rather unfortunate or purposely made to slander Bitcoin. A bomb threat is a bomb threat, regardless of what currency a person uses.
A bomb threat where a person demands to be paid in dollars is not a "US dollar bomb threat"! A threat where someone demands to be paid in Euro is not an "EUR bomb threat"!
How come when somebody asks BTC it suddenly becomes "a Bitcoin bomb threat"? WTF is wrong with these news sites?

The media loves ragging on Bitcoin. The headlines for the story were brutal. Coinidol just re-hashed one of them -- "Bitcoin bomb threats" was common. "Bitcoin scammers send bomb threats across US" was one that stuck out to me.

I've seen this narrative with ransomware too. It's no surprise anymore. When I first got into Bitcoin, it was "only for criminals and drug dealers." At least we've expanded beyond that perception.

It's not necessarily related to ragging on Bitcoin, it's just a headline focused on attracting the most possible clicks, and this is the way to go. It wouldn't even surprise me if these headlines have been exaggerated to fit the current sentiment of the market, while in a more bullish market it would be a less stressing headline.

It happens throughout the whole internet, it's largely a matter of targetting the right audience by adjusting the headlines to what the latest sentiment is.

I'm more surprised by how people are still surprised that this is happening.

Hey, sites like this needs "Clickbait" articles to increase their views, so a juicy story like this is just what they need.  Roll Eyes

Also, let's not forget that people will use any "currency" for things like this, no matter what their goals is. They could have used cash dropoffs or even stolen bank accounts. This can even be the "masters" of our enemies, doing this to taint Bitcoin's image with the public. <Why is this planned now, with Bitcoin being on a downward spiral? - Are they looking for a death blow?>

We know what these people did with 9/11. Why would their tactics be any different with Bitcoin?
