It’s global forum rules from the meta section.
Just because there’s no board specific rules, doesnt mean we’re without any.

This is off topic, you should’ve put it in meta.

As far as I know, there is no rule against quoting someone else's post into your reply, it is a feature made available by the forum and it's used by multiple members.
It's possible your reply was off topic ot it had already been made by another member.
If you provide a copy of it, that would help to decide.

You are not wrong, you do what you know is natural. for example: you go to the market to buy something and then there is a bargain, why don't you buy it and the one that sells doesn't sell, the answer: surely your money is not enough for the item to be brought home so you go home empty handed.

Off-topic replies have become a big problem. From now on, I will be deleting such replies without notice, forum-wide. If your replies disappear, this is probably why.

All replies must respond to the topic's original post in some way, even if they are replying to an on-topic reply. If your reply has nothing to do with the topic post, either add some content that is relevant or create a new topic.

Please report off-topic posts as soon as you see them.

mod and admin have also experienced similar things about deleted answers, so that in the future, try to make sure that every answer is not erased and give a good and professional answer or topic.

So what happened is I gave a recommendation
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5080741.msg48654587#msg48654587
 and someone replied, quoting
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5080741.msg48671930#msg48671930
thanking me for the post that he learnt something new.

and then I quoted the reply also appreciating the person as is normal culture  Wink
[deleted]

But alas! the next day, my post was deleted. That should be the 5th time or so my posts gets deleted in the Tech support thread and I really wonder what the moderator is really up to.

What is wrong with showing appreciation and what in God's name happened to free speech!?

There is a proper way of quoting someone's reply and adding your opinion about it. A quoted text should only contain the part of the other person's message that you are specifically addressing while writing your own opinion, otherwise, it is all messed up.

An example of you not properly quoting and messing up:

Just to give you an example. There is a new blockchain project that tries to solve the problem with the scalability.
I said that I think that scalability is the biggest problem of nowadays blockchain and I hope that the project can solve it.

The post was deleted because it was off-topic?
This is just BS.

An off-topic reply can be just one of many reasons for why a moderator deleted your post. It's possible that someone reported your reply as low quality since most of your posts are bounty related. Or maybe someone found your post to be inaccurate because scalability is already being addressed by so many different projects now so it's not that much of a problem today.

I am really angry atm and I think to boycott this crappy forum in the future. This is censorship at it's best.

Either way, i respect what the moderators are trying to do with new rules and trying to reduce spam. I've had posts deleted as well but do you see me getting angry? Anyway, if you want to leave you're more than welcome to do so but just keep in mind this forum is moderated and it's a privilege to be a member. So they can delete any post that doesn't belong here because they want the forum to remain useful for many years to come.

A post can be deleted but you should be warned first, I suggest.

Picture this,
JakElips is a newbie on this forum but has been a blockchain enthusiast for a while and he identifies a problem that needs addressing; now he mightn't know that scalability is already being discussed somewhere else. [the way this forum is designed makes some topics and i don't mean boards uneasy to find]
So he thinks that his project has some potentials and then talks about it on a thread trying to get people to share what they think.
If a mod already knows that it has been discussed somewhere else, why not make it known in a reply or something so that JakElips and a few others that we should assume have never given scalability a thought can have a chance to explore. It could be possible that JakElips could take a cue or two from there to improve on his own project.
It shouldn't just get deleted without warning; think of the number of users that could have either learnt something or contribute their own knowledge to the post that got deleted.  Not everyone has intentions to scam!

Now, I don't blame a mod to delete a message like that even if it is not absolutely off-topic, because it is definitely disturbing, and very much unclear and non-understandable. To avoid getting your posts containing quotes deleted, you need to learn to quote properly.

An example of proper quoting:

In any case, the problem of off-topic replies is really more a reflection on the forum's lack of threading than any fault of the users.

I agree, but since the forum doesn't yet support threading, it's necessary to enforce on-topicness to keep the forum usable.

Substantial off-topic replies are usually split.

Just read and learn. And possibly you won't need to complain after some time, if you are a learner.

I really would have loved to send the link to the message in question but I also deleted the message from my inbox.
I actually used the direct format as shown above and for the one you stated I messed things up, that message, just like this one is, was meant to be in the same context as the specific ones above it. That shouldn't call for an off-topic reply. A threading feature like Slack's would be good for this forum but its currently unsupported.
If there was a better way of handling message contexts on this forum, I'd love to know.

Quoting a post is not the cause for post deletion, unless you’ve quoted rather large posts, and added very little value to them. In that case, rule number one may apply to your posts:
<…> 1. No zero or low value, pointless or uninteresting posts or threads. <…>[/size]
If you consider that is not the case, you could search through your drafts (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=drafts) to retrieve a draft of the deleted post and show us exactly what was deleted, for a better grip on your issue.

Is there really any need to go through all that just for a deleted post that simply wouldn't be brought back, this is a rather frequent issue in here and every member of this forum has experienced(post being deleted)
OP can forget about the deleted post, and move on, you'll get one or two more deleted posts in the future,so learn to handle it

Thank you, DdmrDdmr. Here's the post just the way I sent it below.

Thanks for sharing the guide... This is new to me and I am glad I learned it from here. Better to take some time figuring out how to be secure than being sorry.
Yesterday I just did a google search on how people claim forks especially the recent Bitcoin Cash Forks and realized how so many people are vulnerable to getting hacked.

Incidents have been there where fake websites claiming to be official sites while offering fake wallets for download pop up out of nowhere. sometimes someone claiming to give a guide of how o claim the coins give a link to a fake wallet/fake website. Hopefully, will people get sensitized about such dirty tricks.

I am glad that you learnt something new. I do understand that some security measures may seem painstaking and one might be tempted to think that he/she is hack-proof as I normally think of myself sometimes Grin but i don't know what lies ahead so its better I take the pains for something than lose all my gains for nothing.

Yes! that's true, Marshall. I don't really care if it comes back or not. I just want to get something clear to avoid future issues like this.
Thank you

Well I can’t see anything wrong with that post. There are other shorter thankyou posts on the (rather interesting) thread, and even multiposts in a row in a short time span from the same user (this could also be a cause for post deletion).

I wouldn’t overthink it too much. Recently I has a post deleted on the B&H thread. I couldn’t figure out why, but all in all it is just down to having spent around 10 minutes in vain in that case.

I've had posts deleted too from the tech boards. They're amongst the boards with least spam, so Mods can still be strict and remove unnecessary posts. Think of it this way: it keeps those boards very useful with high quality posts.
Welcome to Bitcointalk, judging by your post quality you're going to do great Smiley

Whenever I quote a person's post in a reply, it gets deleted and there are no rules that states this section's guidelines.
Despite the fact that there is no rule against quoting another member post in the forum, but if your own reply appears to be off topic the the mod will do justice to your reply by way of deleting it. And also know that not all rules are written so try and improve your posting quality and you will see that your reply will not get deleted in future.

I've had posts deleted too from the tech boards.
I've had posts deleted from multiple sections, many times over.  OP, this is just how the forum is, so get used to it--and if the post that got deleted was just you thanking another member for his post, what's the big deal anyway?

Also, in the future if your post count happens to drop and you get no notification that a mod deleted your post, it means that a thread you posted in got deleted.  That happens and makes people wonder who deleted one or more of their posts.

I wouldn't say bitcointalk is a tightly-run ship, but some sections are more heavily moderated than others, and the tech section might be one of them.  And to echo all the other members here:  learn to quote posts properly so as not to annoy everyone.  Only quote the particular part of a post you're responding to.
