Unless you’re Spencer Bogart, most people would agree that 2018 has been a dismal year for crypto–even if they don’t say it on their Twitter feeds. If you want to sum up the year in four words, you could try using these: ICOs and Ethereum are dead.

Forums, Telegram groups, Slack chats, there’s no shortage of predictions for Ethereum’s collapse, ICOs futures, FUD, and personal nagging fears about ending up in a dumpster. But, beyond the gossip and speculation, what do the industry insiders have to say?

Not dead but dying off and showing the real value of everything that was created. But now we hope that we will be able to attract even more investors and expand the market by increasing capitalization.

Only those who believe that eth will go down. Would you believe any single accusation that eth will soon be dead? Unless youre not a true enthusiast. Eth has a lot of shortcoming this year but it doesnt mean of dying. You know for a fact that eth is the pioneer of smart contract which are widely utilized now and Im sure their new update will be much more an upgrade to new eth network features.

Ethereum si not dead. It was adopted by hundreds of projects and attracted lots of developers. It is not in a good shape now but it is definitely not going to die.

100%! 2018 for cryptocurrency was on the verge of extinction, and with such an indicator, it seems we are entering in 2019! Unfortunately, it is so and we are forced to accept this!

Ethereum isn't dead, and neither are ICOs. Remember that however it may seem, we are still in the early days of crypto. If we believe that this will be a truly transformative technology that will make profound and widespread changes to how economies and societies function, then this requires mainstream adoption - and we are nowhere near that point.
I think it's called price discovery. Everything at the moment is based on speculation; there is no concrete value that can be attributed to coins, and no physical assets. And so we have price volatility. Last year we went up, this year down. Things will continue to be volatile as crypto matures, but I still believe the long-term trend is upwards.
ETH is the biggest and best smart contract system out there. ICOs are not as feverishly oversold as was the case last year, but good projects are still coming along, and people are still buying in... even if less than last year.

Ethereum isn't dead but ICO is about to.

But as the market goes up again, this will give the idea to every ICO that there's going to be a big pump for these too on 2019.

I doubt ETH will die anytime soon, and ICOs will just change format in STOs.

Thankfully more and more projects will start building on alternative platforms (NEO, VET, Waves...) But remember that most of it is still on the ERC-20

ETH is definitely not dying anytime soon, we are just still in the early days, just like most projects like Vechain, LEDU, Storm are steadily building out their projects.

ICOs aren't dead. There will be another ICO boom when the next bull market comes around. Right now they're struggling because there's very little new money in the market. ETH isn't dead either but it could be replaced in the next year or two by one of many looking to usurp it.

we cannot lie and the 4 words you say are facts of the situation that is happening right now. I am personally starting to worry about problems that occur in the ethereum ecosystem, but I am confused why there are still many projects or developers that remain in the ethereum platform? do they think ethereum can recover? why don't they move into other platforms?

Haha, you are completely wrong. Dead doesnt mean that if price goes down, that coin amd startup projects are dead. They are active, more and more better and also soon you will see the price progress.

Actually, ICO is dying because the market condition, it is simple, how ICO will raise money without new fresh money coming in! As to Ethereum out of all coins that have been suffering why Ethereum is the only one we point to and say dead! I really that people should start to separate between Ethereum itself as a coin and the ICO running on it is like when someone writes a bad contract people blame Ethereum itself and they forget that Ethereum have nothing to do with this and it is the fault of the person who wrote that contract. Anyway, I think Ethereum will surprise us in 2019, we will see.

To call ico and ethereum death is very exaggerated in my view. Ethereum is still producing blocks and transacting transactions. Icos still exists, even if there are only a few. That is why i would not call both dead.

OK am I the only one here who saw that OP used 5 words and not 4? Or have I lost the ability to count in crypto? But anyway, ICOs already started to die in 2017, we just didn't realize it at the time because everyone was blinded by the money and price. Ethereum dead? Come on, it's still doing better than tons of other alts (and I'm not even an Ethereum fan).

My 2018 in four words: "Didn't See THAT Coming!"

i wouldn't yet call it dead, ethereum and the ICO hype together have been like a behemoth at some point in 2017 and that gigantic mess is not going to collapse overnight since there is millions of dollars of thousands of people is involved most of them the whales who created this coin.

but this has been the downward spiral to the depth of hell for it with all the problems that this platform has and all the ICO scams that happened on top of it.

2018 in 4 Words – ICOs and Ethereum Are Dead .... That are actually five words  Grin

Now seriously. I don't think Ethereum is dead at all. Wasn't there a news a couple of weeks ago that Ethereum is amongst the top 5 of the fastes growing open source projects on Github? That's not how a dead project looks like.

When it comes to ICO I am with you. I guess the great time for unregistered token sales is over, we will probably see more STOs in the future.

ICO depends a lot on ETH and investors always choose good time to invest in good projects because if the right time, the profit will be easier for everyone. I believe that ETH will always survive and become the leading coin in the future

And the author lost his credibility when he can't even count the total words on the tittle.

ICOs market was following the trend when we are seeing the bearish trend and most people will try to hold themselves to invest in the ico.

Bitcoin becomes the main key in the whole of crypto.
