Hi everyone!

Just wanted to let you know that I've started an Unofficial Bitcoin Wiki in order to help spread the word about Bitcoin. The wiki is still in the early stages of development, but I'm working on getting some base content up right now. Feel free to help out if you like, it is a wiki! Grin

That's a duplicated project. Go to http://en.bitcoin.it instead.

In the bitcoin community there isn't any official or unofficial anything. Think 'like anonymous'

One off NP-Hard.

What is your stance on things like:

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Trade

Products or services illegal in US or Japan are not fit to be listed here - such links will be removed immediately. Any attempt to get those links up again will result in the account being blocked.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Trade_R

http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=7064

Would it be acceptable to cease using bitcoin.it wiki due to controlled censorship and to instead make use of your wiki and not fear your control and censorship capabilities?

The problem is, the government can shut down your website if you don't comply with their laws.  I suppose you could always just wait for a cease and desist letter, or wait until your website is randomly offline one day, but in the end, it's usually better to just comply right from the start.

Hey there bitcoinut.

As da2ce7 mentioned, there's no need to call it an unofficial wiki, because everything that doesn't come from the developers is unofficial. That said, you might consider changing it from "Bitcoin wiki, the unofficial Bitcoin wiki," which is exactly like the current wiki header, "Welcome to Bitcoin wiki, All your bitcoin information needs."  Confusion reigns!

If you haven't read the drug discussion thread, here it is. Long story short, the owner of https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/ decided against listing certain merchants.

http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=6602.0

That's where this could be really useful. Instead of duplicating exactly what the old wiki is doing, you might consider just forking the pages you need and hosting an unedited merchant list. That could resolve some disputes in the community and actually be extremely useful to many, both newcomer and bitcoin devotees.

Seriously? How can you call something a wiki that is not a wiki Huh

Do you think Wikipedia demands of its contributors to send them paypal donations to register or to contribute?
I find en.bitcoin.it highly controversial since to contribute one must pay some amount of Bitcoins before contributing. A few architects that know best(those who donate Bitcoins) that maintain the wiki. See Cathedral and the Bazaar by Eric S. Raymond.

Calling en.bitcoin.it a "wiki" is just a sad lie. Wikipedia nor OpenStreetMap can hardly be compared to something that ain't a wiki.
I wish you good luck on your "project" but I would never call it a wiki, at least not in the category of wikis in the class of Wikipedia.

There may still be hope for the 1st decentralized cryptocurrency which is Bitcoin. How to approach different subjects is key to progress.

Why the bitcoin wiki is .it?
I didn't mean to go offtopic.

To go ontopic I'll just report that http://bitcoinwiki.com/ returns a "Problem loading page" and http://www.isitdownrightnow.com/bitcoinwiki.com.html says

Bitcoinwiki.com is DOWN for everyone.

Btw, I see an existing Bitcoin wikia on http://bitcoin.wikia.com
