There are many reasons for Asia too be leading now. More favorable mining environment (low cost energy), many developers in Russia and South Korea..
But as you said, it may change soon or later. I believe USA is still struggling with regulations, but as soon as this phase passes, it may become a good place for new cryptocurrency projects.
Yes, the US Government needs to update its security regulation laws in order to let cryptocurrency projects pass by. At least, there are several states that are crypto friendly (Ohio, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado) plus there are existing crypto-backed lending companies (BlockFi, SALT Lending, Unchained Capital). We will do perfectly fine within a couple years
