I am really doubt that Bitcoin became so popular only through the word of mouth. Does anybody know how it was advertised? Does the Satoshi or any another Bitcoin's founders buy any advertising?

You can find your answer on Google.
If you think that its quite impossible for you then maybe reading the history about Satoshi would help you.
And here is the link:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satoshi_Nakamoto

Read the Development of Bitcoin Section.

And ofcourse it had an advertisement on the past, there is no such way it will become known to others if it hasn't. Even of you say its only by word of mouth, well it is already kind of adverising.

I saw it mentioned on Twitter a few times in 2010 but thought nothing of it.

It only really became popular recently. It had to rely on word of mouth back then. I seriously doubt Satoshi ever went for any paid advertising. From what I understand, Bitcoin wasn't much more than a proof of concept kind of thing at the start.

Once people started making money out of it though, it was just marketed like crazy. Exchanges started popping up, ICOs, etc., and it all just snowballed from there.

Satoshi posted on some geek forums before. There were exchange of a few mails. Then this forum was created.
Very interested read here > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5.msg28#msg28

Back in November 2009, epic stuff.

The Wikipedia page posted above is also very interesting and accurate. The read of the original wallpaper is fascinating. We are still not sure who Satoshi is, despite his Japanese name he could very well be an American (personal opinion).

In past it was advertised as anonymous (it isnt), as decentralized (it is), no authority (correct) and independent (it is) and borderless (it is).
So most still is true Smiley

I suggest you read Digital Gold by Nathaniel Popper. It gets irrelevant later in the book but the start is really good and gives you a sense of Bitcoin's TOTAL nothingness that lasted for quite a long time. No one gave a shit about it. Even among the cryptographers it was initially revealed to who would've been steeped in the history of digital money and its failure to that point, hardly anyone was convinced.

The reason Bitcoin will stay ahead is precisely because it had no marketing budget or glitzy launch. It just started existing one day and has slowly spread ever since. No other coin will ever have a start like that. It can never be repeated.

True.

And if you wish to know more in depth about Bitcoin and what existed before it, you can have a read at this e-book > https://d28rh4a8wq0iu5.cloudfront.net/bitcointech/readings/princeton_bitcoin_book.pdf It is very informative. The original concept of Bitcoin already existed long before year 2009.

I've first heard and used BTC when I saw 13, so no wonder it's spread from mouth to mouth. It was a fun way to pay back then, bought 5 BTCs for 100$.

I don't think "advertise" is the word we are looking for as BTC had never had a commercial nor a banner ad in the newspaper, the best screen time we can only get is through news which I doubt we had way back 2010. I know it was offered in the email but other than that we cannot say that Bitcoin's popularity can be attribute to it being advertise in the world. Maybe the world just catch up to us in the way they are seeing how Bitcoin is growing through mining and trading as well as the usage of it even through its silk road days, the biggest factor they had catch up is BTC's price making headlines as all of us wanted a bigger piece of the pie.

It was being published in a known article.and it even being recognized and was able to get an award base on wikipedia information. But, even the wikipedia does not have any assurance or accurate in it claims but many had believe on it that it really did happen as it was being recorded. Anyway, it does not matter to how bitcoin was being introduced and to what matters most is that we can earn through this system.

This is a really interesting question, because after the development of bitcoin, no one knew about it, except for a narrow group of people.
In my opinion, information about bitcoin spread very hard at first. It became more popular when its price started showing to arrive in hundreds of percent per year. And then if people found out that there is such a profitable asset - a mass purchase of bitcoin began.

For what it’s worth (**), I’ve taken a look at how Google Trends shows the evolution of the term Bitcoin on its search engine:

What we are seeing above (*) is not a direct representation of the number of searches, but rather the popularity of the term searched for a given moment in time and or geographical location (world in this case). There is always a 100 scaled peak on these charts, representing the moment the search term has most popularity in relation to all searches on all topics. The other values on the graph are plotted proportionally over the 100 base scale.

Basically, what we see on the chart is that:

-   Peak popularity was reached during December 2017.. January 2018.
-   There was also a peak during November 2013 .. January 2014.
-   A smaller peak took place around April 2013.
-   A rather small peak took place during June 2011.
-   Practically nothing at all before.

(*) Chart labels are in my Spanish Local settings -> ene: January.
(**) Looking over a long period of time may have data skewed due to changes in Google search engine algorithms and metadata storage (then again it may not, but I cannot vouch for it with certainty). Also Google Search engine share has evolved over the last decade.

It is correlated with the number of articles on the subject.
If you look at the price in 2017, there were lots of articles in the media, most of them being positive, bullish (for example from Forbes). In 2018 there was more and more negative articles and the price followed that trend. Which means the price is not only results of whales' manipulations, as one could think.
