I thought off topic would be the best place to post this because of how unwelcoming some other parts of the forum are when it comes to discussion.

Anyways, I'm trying to make a point here. I hope I'll help some people by putting that out.

Whether you're new to bitcoin or not I'm sure that you've heard of bitcoin faucets.  Now let's get started with how those websites work: First of all, those websites attract users with one way or an other. In our case, FREE BITCOINS. Sounds good right? We've all visited such a website at least once.
But why would a website be set to automatically pay out bitcoins for each one of it's visitors? Well you're actually paying them to get paid.
Each time you get into this page, every time you see an advertisement into this page, they're earning. And they're earning much more than what you do. Have you ever thought how much time you would need to spend in faucet/pay to click etc. Website to earn the equivalent of $1? And while you're doing that the ads you're viewing are paying the website owners an amount like 10x of what you're being rewarded. There is no other way for those websites to work out.

So now that you know that you're actually not going to earn anything from "free bitcoin" websites, you should find some other way to spend this time you were wasting. Do you still want to earn something? I'll be listing some more effective ways to earn bitcoins. Be careful though. Earn means that you'll have to work for it, no one is going to throw money at you for no reason.

At this point you should ask your self if you have any particular skills you can maybe take advantage off. Like coding, website building, video editing, languages, or even writing!

There are countless tutorials for how to get started with worldpress.
Worldpress is an amazing tool for blogers. After you install it to your website it's really easy to put out content and make the environment look atractive for visitors. If your writting is good and you have something interesting to write about then all you need is some self promotion. You don't need millions of visitors to have a respectable ad revenue.

If you don't really want to run your own website then why not write for someone else? Big websites that feature articles can't have content from a single person. They need people to write for them! It's not hard to send an email detailing what you could write about and asking if they would be interested.

If you have some skills you think people would be willing to pay for then why not thy one of those?
http://bittask.com/
http://www.reddit.com/r/Jobs4bitcoins
https://coinality.com/

To make things clear, you're not going to have crazy earnings but it's by far better than what you would get from faucets. Plus you're doing something productive!

But if you wouldn't like to get in all the effort just to earn some coins, well then you can still spend your time productively. Why not learn something?

Check out https://www.edx.org/course-list University professors give free online courses there. You can even get some sort of certificate! There's sure going to be somethint to interest you in there. If not, http://www.codecademy.com/ is a really nice way to get into code. Or maybe even learn a language at https://www.duolingo.com/ It really makes learning a new language seem easier.

So yeah that was it. I know writting guides is not my specialty but I'm really hoping this is going to help some people out.
Your comments and questions are welcome.

I've always wondered if faucets were worth any time at all. Apparently they really aren't. But I think for anyone looking to have some fun doing a couple of rolls here and there it's not a bad way to pass the time. But by doing that I guess you wouldn't be doing anything productive at all. I wish Duolingo had Japanese, I need to learn some before heading there in the summer.

See faucets and such websites are all about wasting your time. "Rolling a couple of times" won't do anything. You would need to visit the website dozens of times before you can withraw any amount. That happens so the website earn more by advertisements. "Free btc" sounds too good to be true and it actually is.

As of Japanese, I don't have much experience. I know 4chan's /int/ board has a wiki on language learning.
You can have a look at it and see if something there helps. http://4chanint.wikia.com/wiki/Japanese  Smiley

This is easily the most sensible post I've read this week alani123. For expanding skill-sets, https://www.udacity.com is good too. If you fancy trying your hand at indie game development try Unity, which has a free version available, http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/682834/So-you-want-to-be-a-Unity-D-game-developer too.

Personally i don't endorse faucets too , nd I think they are a huge waste of time too..! but then again when I think if I had surfed few faucets 2-3years ago I don't think I'd be regretting that on this day, and then I think of next 3-5years , will it be worth it.. who knows..!
So i surf 2-3faucets daily that is <5mins daily..!

Also I write content if someone asks.
Have basic HTML/css/php[6mnths course] skills but have to go long way to improve them to level where I can say I know it.

Great post, however newbies continue to waste their time on faucets regardless.

Faucets used to have one purpose and that was to accumulate a tiny bit of btc to use elsewhere... now they're a really poor way to make some btc. Sad

I'll tell you what makes more money, should it be something you do well, and that's trading all these digital coins.  I can't keep track of too much at once so I'm sticking with one exchange and that's at (yes, I'm going to use a referral link here...) scrypt.cc?ref=baagt for now.  It's a specialized exchange for shares of mining rigs, mining scrypt coins.

It's slow, which is good because I'm learning.  It's about to pick up though as the site is planning to advertise starting friday.  The nice part about the exchange is it's btc to khs, where the khs is mining shares (no contracts) in what can arguably be considered the largest scrypt mining operation on the planet.  (know anyone else throwing 200mhs at 3 separate scrypt coins at a time?)

Payouts have been about .5% a day on average with .6% the last few days.

I'm actually waiting on word regarding a position with the company now because I spent the last month hanging out in chat and helping folks out.

Find what you're good at... find ways to leverage that into an income.  When you do something new for 3 weeks and it's still frustrating and difficult to grasp... face the facts that you may just be geared for something different.  I don't grok real estate for anything and would lose my shirt as an investor or realtor.  Customer Service and Building computers?  That's something I do well and always did from the start.

Remember... You spend 1/3rd of your life sleeping, 1/3rd of your life working and the remaining 1/3rd is split up between eating and personal time... when your income generation is so bad it's affecting your sleep and your eating... what worth is that income to you, really?

Be good to yourselves people and...

Not a bad thread. Life can be exhausting though, mentally, if not I would be studying every minute. (Which I have in the past, but the last few months have been hard.)

I have to agree with you about http://scrypt.cc?ref=baab5.
I even have their link in my sig.
I have been surprised at how well it is working out.  I have a little bit at cex but the payouts are better at scrypt and the trading is much more friendly.
Beats a faucet any day.
