Are updates that rare now that a thread needs to be made when there's a new one?

If so then I don't know why people pay for these things if you don't even get updated more than once a month. I suppose they're trying to join up with blockchain.com and they have their ledger blue so they're a bit distracted but still they should have enough money to put on as many useful updates as possible. They're not adding any altciins yet either based on that article which is a bit disappointing, just preparing for some reason.

There are monthly updates for newly supported currencies. Firmware doesn't need to updated every month. If it works, don't fix it.

The most important part of these updates is the support for new currencies, especially forks.

With so many forks going on, ledger should support at least the most valuable ones.

It is a firmware update, it makes no sense to update firmware every month. People pay for these things to prevent events like recent Electrum hack or any other desktop/online wallet hack. Ledger could be bought for 50 $ recently, and this can only be good investment for anyone who is concerned for security of coins.

Ledger is just made hardware wallet for blockchain.com, and that is good for security of their users - they will be able to trade with coins direct from hardware wallet, means no hacking/phishing of such user. What's interesting to me regarding to this firmware :

Additionally, the 1.5 firmware version is the first release to have been fully evaluated against the CSPN certification. CSPN stands for “Certification de Sécurité de Premier Niveau” (First Level Security Certification) and is issued by ANSSI, the French National Security Agency.

We expect the CSPN certification of the Ledger Nano S to be issued in the coming weeks, and we’ll come back with an announcement, including more details on this important milestone.

This means Ledger will have a certificate from French version of NSA.

I bet it's either their new mobile wallet for the Nano S or a completely new device.

It'll be a new replacement for the ledger nano s... the image looks like it could have a built in screen so that one can view an entire address in one line and QR codes (same as on the KeepKey) and with a touch screen. Overall easier to use for the layman, and maybe add some functionality to make it easy to use with a new mobile app.

The fact that they show that photo of a piece of hardware, plus the 30% discount that has extended beyond Christmas on nano s, just proves this is a new hardware wallet announcement. Ledger is trying to sell it's inventory of the nano s.

As for the button, probably have to press the button to confirm any virtual option/button pressed on the touch screen.

Anyone with an old nano ledger s still has secure coins and that's all that matters. Let's not be like apple fan boys. I was about to buy a nano s but now i'll wait to see what this announcement is. You will see i am proven right, so remember/reminder this comment!

It'll be a sexier, sleeker version of KeepKey with proper mobile app integration.

About half the Ledger team, including the CEO, CTO and President, are going to be at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas between 8th and 11th - 1 day after this announcement. The majority of their schedule seems to be taken up with what they are calling "Daily Demos" - https://discover.ledger.com/ces2019/. I would imagine this is going to be them demoing a new piece of hardware.

I really hope that oval section we can see is a screen and not a fingerprint scanner.

LeGaulois, I admit I did not check what is actually ANSSI, and Ledger is called them French National Security Agency which implies that it is a national security agency, but Ledger has failed to emphasize that it is The Agence nationale de la sécurité des systèmes d'information which is something completely different.

Anyway Ledger prepared us an interesting beginning of the year, new firmware and speculation of brand new wallet. I just hope new firmware will not be problematic to upgrade, as was the case in the past.

I guess they decided to present it like that because it's more "marketing friendly". I mean it's easier to say it's a national security agency rather than to say it's just an agency that no citizen really knows about.

BTW, I remember a project (Unikeys?) in the "Project Development" with the same certification.
On the end, it doesn't look like an agency working exclusively for the minister.

Ledger is going to work on bringing back the original capacity of the Nano S. Many people have been complaining that they can have only 3 apps installed after the 1.5.5 update. At the same time, Ledger announced a new model whose memory was much bigger.

I'm glad to see that Ledger have not only admitted that they screwed up, but are actively working on fixing it. It is a shame that the fix is not likely to arrive until Q2... but at least they are working on it.

I haven't updated my ledger nano s firmware so I think after the latest firmware update comes out, I'll start updating. A lot of complains on their sub-reddit, good to see they act accordingly on it.

jossiel, I also did not make the update of latest firmware for reason I still use Windows 7, and by the comments of the majority who tried it on this OS there are big problems that may occur during the update.

The only thing that worries me is critical vulnerability on the Bitcoin app, and Ledger say :

For security reasons, it is strongly recommended to update your device. However, if you do not wish to update your device for the moment, please make sure you do update the Bitcoin app to version 1.3.4.

I update Ledger Live on latest version and check Manger, it still show 1.3.2 version of Bitcoin app. I have also asked about this in this thread, but for now without answer.

I am not sure next release of firmware will be able to be installed on 1.4.2 firmware, it may require latest version so waiting may not make sense in this case.

I have an old computer with Windows 7, and it's an absolute nightmare trying to use it with Ledger Live. Regularly crashes or freezes, blank screens, won't recognise the Nano S, won't sync, suggests utterly hilarious fees - once I tried to send 0.1 bitcoins from it and even with custom fees set at 3 sat/byte it was giving me a total cost of over 20 bitcoins. I've not tried to update via Windows 7, but I can only imagine it would also be a total headache.

Windows 7 will soon be unsupported in terms of security updates from Microsoft, so best to think about moving away from it.

o_e_l_e_o, I do not have such problems with my Windows 7 or with Ledger Live, everything works perfectly normal for me. My PC is old, but is regularly maintained with all updates and protected with best security solutions. Your problems have causes in some other things maybe, not only in fact that you use Windows 7.

I read that some users have problems even on Windows 10 (firmware update), so it is not only about OS, but it may be related to hardware or current updates/drivers. Windows 7 will have support until January 14 2020, and I hope I will have new device with new OS until then.

I have my Ledger Live on windows 10 which I visit sometimes but I havent see any problem at all. And regards to that issue about bitcoin app, I'll check that thread.
