The attack occurs when a user (or group of users), when obtaining more than 50% of the computing power of the network, changes already registered transactions and performs the so-called "double expense".

This type of attack is a rather particular risk factor for cryptoactives, especially for leaner networks, which rely on fewer miners working to ensure that transactions are recorded correctly on their networks.

That's why it's always worth keeping an eye out for the smaller projects that make up your portfolio and devising a strategy not to compromise it if it happens to any of your portfolio assets.

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Today, ETC suffered a 51% cyberattack, causing all token prices to fall. Some exchanges claim to have lost ETC tokens in this incident.
