Some of you that have interest in small cap altcoins might be familiar with Ember Coin. Ember Coin went through several generations of dev teams with no real direction. Ember was a hyper-inflationary coin with a circulating supply of about 9 trillion and no specific utility. Early in 2018 the Ember community assumed control of the abandoned project, brought in new leadership and developers and formed Atheneum. The goal was to solve the two major problems with Ember: supply and utility.
The first goal of the project was to figure out a substantial use-case for blockchain. Often, blockchain projects will just take an existing business model and attempt to slap a "blockchain" sticker on it. The Ember community was all to familiar with a failed blockchain project so they were devoted to formulating a use for Atheneum that solved real problems in the real world. The community voted and the consensus concluded that education was an industry in desperate need of a paradigm shift.
In order to accomplish this feat there would need to be a lot of technical work done just to get the project re-branded, re-calibrated and onto a new blockchain that didn't carry the technical and fundamental problems of Ember. So it was decided that a new PoS chain would need to be constructed - one governed by Masternodes and the world's first DALO (Decentralized Autonomous Learning Organization). The supply would be scaled down from 9 trillion to an initial circulating supply of only 25M with a total supply of 100M.
2018: the year that will go down in history as the year that real blockchain projects were built in spite of less than favorable market conditions was an entire year devoted to the building of infrastructure so that the community could transition from the old chain to the new. This is where we find ourselves now, at the jumping off point. On January 7th, 2019 crypto's first live streamed coin swap & burn went live. Trillions of Ember tokens have brought to fruition the definition of their name - they were burned and from those smoldering embers came freshly minted Atheneum tokens ($AEM).

Atheneum is a project devoted to changing how instructors are compensated while simultaneously decreasing cost barriers to education for students.
