It's really a waste of money. The only reason to buy an account is to take part in a signature campaign. As soon as a DT detects that it is a bought account, then it will get a red tag in the trust rankings. This means that it won't be able to join any of the more profitable campaigns.

You'll probably make more by buying some Bitcoin, and waiting for the price to go up. You can then spend your time learning about crypto and blockchain technology here.

Buying account is NOT against forum rules, but it could as well be as a sold account would likely be tagged if discovered.
There are some reasons to support that; the account coukd be hacked and the hacker would claim to have been bought. Or the account could be hacked and then put on sale.

If the account transition could be made more transparent, and public, maybe it could not be tagged.
But account sales is generally discouraged.

You shouldn't buy accounts because this isn't allowed, not because someone may have took part in a campaign of a coin you don't like.

The only thing that is worth here is your reputation. If you bought your account, you are breaking rules and you will probably get a red trust and lose all your reputation.

I believe buyers of high-ranking accounts only have reasons for signature campaigns and they are those who don't like forum policies regarding ranking requirements. If they have a red tag, they deserve it.

This space for rent.

Buying/selling accounts is not explicitly against the forum rules, but is it heavily frowned upon. I mean, what can really go wrong if you buy an account? Well quite a few things really, amongst which figure:

-   Both your buyers and sellers account could be red tagged by DT. That will likely lead your account from being barred from participating in campaigns (which I assume would be the objective to start with).

-   You could easily get scammed, and end-up paying for an account which you eventually do not receive.

-   You could also be buying a compromised account, which may be under investigation for breaking the forum rules at some point.

-   You could also be buying an account with plagiarized content on some of the posts for example, and be banned if reported further on down the road, even years ahead.

-   You may think that you will make the smart move, and delete all posting history once you buy the account (to get a fresh start). Nevertheless, many people are not aware that deleting posts can demote the rank of your account in accordance to the reduction in activity. If you delete all the account’s posts, it will be back to being a Newbie.

All the above are assuming that the purpose is to participate in campaigns. If the idea is to build a reputation to trade or so, then the move does not seen too smart either, since changes in posting history style can be spotted by others and added to the Trust feedback (trusted or not).

All in all, more often than not it should result in being a bad move …

There are other alternatives to getting acknowledgement here on the forum and achieving a higher rank without having to buy that position.
I am against the idea of one with knowledge below a certain rank holding an account at that rank, sort of pike a legendary member who doesn't know much about the forum or cryptocurrency.

The process of growing an account legitimately exposes one to knowledge and is worth experiencing.
As has been mentioned, it is heavily frowned upon and could get both involved in the transaction tagged

Buy accounts if you want to be red tagged Cheesy. It's not against the rules to buy accounts, but it's strictly discouraged by community and for legitimate person it's not worth to do that.
I suppose that large number of account sellers are scammers and they don't have any accounts. They just run away with money received from buyer. But I don't feel empathy to buyers in such cases - they tried to abuse system and got whatvthey deserved.

If you are here just to read, why do you need higher ranked account? Because you can read posts using Newbie account without any issues. Be honest - you bought account and you got caught and money that you spent for account is wasted.

Personally I feel, there might be hardly any account for sell after all these Merit requirements. Those who are selling accounts are might doing a con business.
1. You might not got nothing and will be scammed of your money.
2.Even you are not scammed and got the account, still very likely that you might get banned for plagariasm or red trusted because people spot these changes.
3. Sometimes account sellers try to recover their account after selling.

There are lot of risk associated with purchased account and it is frowned my community, so better to stay from it.

As soon as a DT detects that it is a bought account,t
Its quite easy to detect account switched owner. There are many factors as:
1. different IP address that person write from
2. different writing style

i put down only two, but they are very hard to fake and 99% of accounts with different owner gets banned with that

The introduction of the Merit system has made forum account selling more profitable, because most people are too lazy to put the effort in to write quality content to rank up. A lot of people are also impatient and they want to use those accounts to signup for signature campaigns, but things comes apart, when they signup with these accounts and their post quality drop, because they are not the original poster of the quality content.  Roll Eyes

Once the account has been flagged as a bought account, it becomes worthless.  Tongue

Apart from the account being tagged and becoming useless, most account sellers after carrying out the illicit deal and pocketing their reward for the sale, end up making threads in meta about the account being hacked and since they are the original owner of the account and have some prove and can sign addresses related to the account, they could likewise reclaim such account even after the sale
Account trade had numerous disadvantages and should be avoided completely

<…> Once the account has been flagged as a bought account, it becomes worthless. <...>
I’ve been wondering if all the DT changes that are now taking place could have an on/off reading of red trust. I mean if people are now encouraged to create their own Trust lists (the vast majority won’t), and assuming a Campaign Manager decides to do so, the trust scores he will see (numbers on the user profile) will vary from that of the DT vision. One could, under the DT vision, have red trust and not under a specific Custom Trust List, or vice-versa.
One can always switch to see the DT view on a given profile (by adding ;dt to the URL), but the more the customized Trust lists extend, the more visions of the Trust numbers do we have on the forum.

The Feedback also I figure can change from the Trusted Feedback list to the Untrusted Feedback list, or vice-versa. If DT1 composition (the integrating DT members) changes noticeable from month to month, I think this could be somewhat a feature. Default Trust colours and numbers were rather stable until now on a tagged account, but I wonder if making the system rather dynamic will have weird side-effects such as the above hypothesized.

Building up your own account is not that difficult if you're honestly interested in learning more about Bitcoin or contributing to the community in any way. People are excited to merit the interested or informed newcomer. That's something that everybody loves to see; a little bit of passion, intrigue and practical application can go a long way. We're a community and we root for each other. There are of course fringe cases where users attempt to tear one another down for personal/political gain, but almost exclusively we are all seeking to better ourselves for the benefit of the community. Patience is a virtue for exactly the same reason account sales are frowned upon; short-cuts are an indication of your lack of willpower and nobody can respect that. Take part in the community, but do not cheat it.
