I agree that ripple is one of the good altcoins, it is well developed and quite attractive for the investors, but basically the ripple is centralized unlike Bitcoin or Ethereum.
So, in my opinion ripple will not be able to defeat Bitcoin as the king of cryptocurrency also defeated Ethereum as the best altcoin until now.

No, Ripple can never beat BTC lol, why would you even have such thoughts. Well opinions are like noses but i don't think Ripple can ever beat btc in terms of value per cryptocurrency or even marketcap. Bitcoin surely rules forever . Bitcoin has started rising again and hopefully if we see another bull run soon XRP would be no where near BTC, never forget this.

Most people has a bad impression on Ripple. As the network might be decentralized, the system is not. The system is likely to be the same as the current financial system, it will be just centered towards few large banks. There was a rumor, that researcher from BitMEX has discovered that Ripple is missing around 3,200 blocks from the start of the ledger and nodes can't obtain this data. As the result, it's way impossible to audit Ripple and its whole chain in the future. Those are the reasons why people call Ripple a centralized coin. Ripple is not comparable to Bitcoin and can't defeat Bitcoin in any possible ways as Bitcoin has a perfect concept about decentralization.

I really doubt that XRP will defeat BTC in the near future. This is like punch in the air scenario. Beat the popularity of usage first before we talk XRP beating btc. In terms of  how many people are actually using XRP vs. BTC, you will know the answer for yourself.

In terms of the Use of both coins, The possibility of that happening is very thin. We all know that Bitcoin is the mother of all cryptocurrencies and its becoming more widely accepted all over the world today. Xrp hasn't gotten that wide acceptance yet.
Apart from that in terms of volume almost all centralized exchanges has btc as a pair, but it's not all centralised exchange that as Xrp listed in it.

I think it's very difficult, since most of the altcoins depend directly on bitcoin, some indirectly, I think it can be easily seen, because if bitcoin goes up, the altcoins start doing it.

Many times the altcoins begin to rise and may have a good run, but if the bitcoin falls, so the altcoin has the best moment will fall, it is very simple, because they depend on the price of bitcoin.

If the currency did not fall when bitcoin falls in price, I think that at that time is different, everything changes because it would stop depending on the leadership of Bitcoin, and that scenario is very difficult to happen, I think it is impossible.

But ETH regained the no.2 position, as the community is much larger and much more loyal than what XRP is having. The price of XRP is very low and if you want to like Bitcoin it certainly requires a very long process and even can't. Bitcoin will continue to be developed and until now the price continues to rise. Well, what is the reason "why XRP can defeat BTC?" Is it about the supply? Or is it about the price? Of course, both of them are very different.
And I did not see any chance or potential for XRP to defeat BTC with whatever the reason.
